For some reason, probably to save costs, Mitsubishi did not equip US versions of the Montero Sport with a Cabin Air Filter even though foreign versions of the vehicle did get this feature and despite the fact that the blower motor box is already set up to accept a filter with just one small modification (see youtube video titled "1996-2004 Montero Sport Cabin Filter Install"). As such, you might have noticed how dusty and smelly the interior gets from outside air.
Recommended service life: 10,000 miles regular use, 5,000 miles severe use (lots of dusty offroad trails)
*NOTE - Your US Montero Sport will need to be modified to accept a cabin air filter but this is a very easy job that only takes a few minutes and no special tools. See youtube video titled "1996-2004 Montero Sport Cabin Filter Install"
