DESCRIPTION 1970 AMC AMX OEM 390 Air Cleaner. This assembly has been refinished to match the exterior visuals of the 1970 AMX 390 air cleaners - these are nearly impossible to find anymore. It features the correct snorkel inlet housing with a thermally regulated temperature valve and large diameter pre-heater provision. The base is in very good condition and has the front oil breather elbow tube; it retains the interior baffle - likely from a full size car (while not correct for the Ram Air cars, the assembly does fit properly). The carburetor flange is 5 1/8" inch and accommodates factory 4 barrel carburetors (Autolite), as well as aftermarket Edelbrock/Holley/Carter iterations. It has been finished with the correct 1970 blue version air cleaner service decal featuring the "Front" call out. Note that the 68-69 390 air cleaners were similar, but came with a 4 1/8" carburetor flange that would fit the Carter AFB - this is a primary difference between the assemblies.
The matching new chromelid is in excellent condition. The recessed wing nut well contours with a new heavy duty air filter. The assembly is completed with an OEM AMC wing nut along with a new stud.
This is a rare opportunity to get an original AMC assembly. It is complete and reflects the original period, allowing an incomplete restoration to get that much closer to the original state. It is a unique item to our store inventory - many items are only available once. The old adage "Here today, gone tomorrow" applies.
This assembly presents well and will enhance your restoration. Best of all, it is a genuine and rare AMC part!

APPLICATIONS This assembly is correct for the following 1970 models: AMC AMX 390, Rebel, SST, The Machine, Javelin 360
FITMENT The assembly will fit factory 4 barrel carburetors (Autolite) with a 5 1/8" diameter flange. It will alsofit later model (Holley, Carter, and Edelbrock) variations with the larger 5 1/8" flange. If you have modified your carburetor or intake manifold, please inquire first prior to purchase to ensure fitment is correct. Return requests for non-fitment will not be honored.
Note: all 68-69 390 models featured the Carter AFB carburetor with the 4 1/8" flange - far more common than the one year only 1970 base. While they look similar, the larger diameter flange differentiates the year models. The 1970 343/360 models came with a smaller diameter air cleaner assembly with a longer snorkel that does not fit the confines of the AMX Ram Air hood. The baffle redirecting airflow remains on the assembly as found - it can be removed if desired.
