The Shifter indicator is set up for 1983-88 4 speed over drive with the clear plastic and indicators. The Shifter plate CAN be used for 3 speed. You can use theproper replacement of the shifter plate indictor plastic piece and the correct clear plastic can be swapped. This may be done by removing the plate from your current three speed indicator and gluing the 3 speed in place of the 4 speed indicator on the new burlwood grain 4 speed indicator.
