World’s First 9-Second Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing

August 25th, 2023

This short clip gives us a look into the Late Model Performance (LMP) shop. With permission to experiment with a 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, the things that these guys get up to are mind-blowing. Take a look.

This Cadillac sedan comes to LMP bone stock. That includes a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine that can make 598whp. With no access to tuning software (at the time), LMP began the mods by swapping out the stock blower with a Kong Ported unit. The pulley was kept stock and an LMP supercharger lid was installed. The next step was installation of a larger heat exchanger with a remote coolant reservoir and a methanol injection system. When tuning software became available, it was used in conjunction with a Dyno Jet. In the end, the results were pretty spectacular. The Blackwing now made 687hp and 697 ft.-lbs. of torque to the rear wheels (on E50 fuel). That’s with a factory air filter and stock exhaust. With that, the LMP crew were off to the drag strip.

With a 10.17 @ 137 mph already in the books, the crew scrambled to get more. A second and third pass yielded 10.15-second runs @ 136 mph. Were these guys going to drop down into the nines? A fourth and fifth pass were more encouraging with twin 10.07 @ 138 mph entries. With an intercooler full of fast-food ice, they finally strike gold with a 9.9 @ 138 mph.

What a great day of racing!
