Top Gear Tests 1600HP Koenigsegg Chimera

Coming at you courtesy of Christian von Koenigsegg, we have a one-of-a-kind hypercar for the ages. Combining elements of the older model Koenigsegg Agera RS, the new Koenigsegg Jesko and CC850, the Koenigsegg Chimera is a performance-based machine that eats up the street like it hates asphalt. Check this out.

Appropriately named after a monster in Greek mythology that had a lion’s head, a goat’s body, and a serpent’s tail, the Chimera is manufactured in Sweden. It is the rolling outcome of an auto enthusiast’s wet dream. On one customer’s whim, Koenigsegg merged the best features from their two newest models into his used Agera RS.

At the heart of this Frankenstein is the twin turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 engine from the Jesko. This beast of a motor can produce 1,280hp on pump gas or 1,600hp on E85. Opting to go with the gated 6-speed manual/automatic transmission from the CC850, Koenigsegg cast aside the conventional 9-speed automatic from the Jesko. The more complex gearbox from the CC850 allows the driver to switch between manual and automatic modes with the flip of a switch. Sound complicated? Believe me, it is. Fortunately, car owner Mohammed Ben Sulayem is the current F1A President and a former Rally driver. He really knows how to work the equipment.

At a curb weight of 2,285-pounds, there is no telling how fast the all-wheel drive Chimera can get to 60 mph or clear the standing quarter-mile. Safe to say, it’s pretty darn quick.
