Motor Trend Track Tests New Porsche 911 GT3 RS

July 15th, 2024

When Motor Trend began searching for the 2024 Performance Vehicle of the Year, getting the Porsche 911 GT3 RS on the track was a no-brainer. After all, the GT3 RS is the most track ready version of the iconic 911 lineup. With extreme aerodynamic features, an active-air downforce setup and a 9,000 RPM redline, this version of the GT3 RS may be the most capable Porsche road car to date.

The rear-wheel drive, rear engine Porsche 911 GT3 RS is poised on a control arm front suspension with four-link setup in the rear. The brakes are vented and cross-drilled ceramic disc on all four corners. Hugging the road are Michelin Pilot Pro Sport Cup 2 R Connect tires in 20-inch (front) and 21-inch (rear). Curb weight is 3,216-pounds.

Making this thing go is a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat six-cylinder engine capable of producing 518hp with 332 lb.-ft. of torque. The transmission is a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Car and Driver Magazine says the 911 GT3 RS can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.7-seconds and turn the standing quarter-mile in 10.7-seconds @ 127 mph. Top speed is 184 mph.

Today, Motor Trend will get the GT3 RS out on the track and test it against the likes of the McLaren 750s, the Ferrari 296 GTB and the Maserati MC20 Cielo. Buckle-up, this is going to be a wild ride.
