1967 Dodge Dart GT – Hellcat HEMI Swapped Restomod

July 4th, 2024

Happy Birthday to the greatest nation on Earth! Who has it better than the U.S.? Nobody!

Today, I am celebrating with an All-American restomod in the Mopar category. At the risk of sounding like a name-dropper, here is a brief history of this neck snapping resto. It was built by Gas Monkey Garage for an episode of Roadkill. Later, it was found for sale on eBay by a fellow named Chris Ashton from Ruffian Cars. Chris, a premier builder in his own right, purchased the old girl and followed up with a few of his special touches in an effort to make the car streetable. Here’s the results:

At first glance, you see a ratty old 1967 Dodge Dart GT. Then you spot the hole in the hood with the unmistakable appearance of a factory Hellcat blower protruding. Open the hood and a 6.2-liter HEMI V8 is revealed. That’s a 2.6-liter supercharger on top. Both pulleys have been upgraded (supercharger and crankshaft). Running high octane (93) pump gas, this beast can produce 770hp.

Unique to this car is the 2-speed Powerglide transmission. It’s running a high stall torque converter and a Gearvendors overdrive is in the plans.

The rear end is a Ford 9-inch with 4.11:1 gears in a Strange housing with Strange axles.

The rear suspension is an uneven four-link setup. The front is a drag race k-member with manual rack-and-pinion steering. The four-wheel disc brake setup is Wilwood and they’re all manual.

If you enjoy bare knuckles, straight line race cars, you will like this ride. Enjoy the test drive.
