1964 Ford Thunderbolt 427 at NHRA U.S. Nationals

Greetings fellow drag racing fans and speed aficionados. Allow me to introduce Kurt Neighbor and his 950hp Ford Thunderbolt. In full disclosure, the car is a 1964 Ford Fairlane 500. While the car is not an actual (factory) Thunderbolt, it is an exceptional clone.

Kurt builds his own motors. This one is spectacular. It’s an all-aluminum 427 high-riser, dual-quad setup and it’s mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The block is an aftermarket racing unit, and the cylinder heads are custom made by Bischoff. NHRA Super Stock Class rules are strenuous, and this old Ford meets all the criteria. A legitimate Ford master, Kurt has posted a best elapsed time of 8.60-seconds in the quarter-mile with this big old girl. That’s really picking ‘em up and putting them down.

Hope you enjoy watching this big block Ford sailing through rounds – while hitting his shift points around 9,000 RPM! This car is incredible.
