I made two more videos to show that car starts now perfectly and I will add another one as soon as the temperature will drop. Reason why car didn't start in this video is because 3 of 6 glow plugs were not working.

We were on a ski trip in northern Finland. The whole week was freezing, -25C to -35C all the time. Obviously, it was too cold to ski. The car layed completely unused on a parking lot for five days. When leaving, I had to do this cold start, and thought it would be worth filming. Battery was original, about five years old, and it survived really well. No Engine heater, battery heater/charger or any other device was used. Pure cold start.
Idle revs are higher at low temperatures, thanks to automatic choke. Nobody touches the accelerator at any time. I'm actually releasing the clutch @ 0:43 to keep revs low, I thought cold and thick transmission oil would cause some troubles to engine and lower the revs. If I remember correctly, idle revs were somewhere around 2500 - 3000 rpm during the start.
The coldest start before this was -22C. It's much more gentle for the engine than this. However, after this I got new battery and a block heater, just in case. I know continuous starts like this will kill the engine very quick, but doing it once hardly did any damage. Car had 150 000km (almost 100 000 miles) on it when I sold it, and it still worked fine.

Was genau die Ursache war, ist unklar. Fehlersuche bei der AMAG ergab kein Ergebnis.
Habe mich damit abfinden müssen, dass dieser Fehler von Zeit zu Zeit vorkommt und dann genauso seltsam, wie er gekommen ist, wieder verschwindet.
Zwischenzeitlich habe ich den Golf , weil ich aufgrund zu vielen Mängel nicht durch die MFK kam, in den Export gegeben und mir einen Audi A3 zugelegt.
Volkswagen TDI's Cold Start, Or Not
After 4 days of sitting and a few nights of -25 I thought we would see if the VW's would start, They are extremely reliable cars but like any diesel winter and starting do not go along. I didnt push them simply because I did not want to kill the battery. 2001 golf tdi with 315000km's and 2003 jetta with 295000km's.

Bad start!!because of the spinning tires.The gear was on D. I noticed that the automatic mode is faster than the manual/active-matic mode specially after 120km/h. The DSC was off otherwise it wont have this much torque.

37419 COLD START
37419 Trying it's best to start in very cold conditions on the 8th February 2007 at Old Oak Common Depot LONDON UK.
The temperature on this date was -01c - 30.21F .
The power unit is clearly COLD hence the reason it is struggling to start.It does start once the cylinder temperature rises around the 1:12 min mark.
