EV Review. Our Electric Vehicle review team Bruce & Eric will test drive and review Electric Vehicles as they become available in Australia.
This review site also assumes the viewer has moved on from all the classic myths about why EVs are bad for the earth and is just a passing fancy. For those sharing such views there are plenty of forums and TV series such as Top Gear that will reinforce stereotype views of the larger commercial motoring industry supporting faster and higher speed transport or better "Off Road" hardware. We are talking about simple point "A" to point "B" comfortable transport in a mechanically simplified vehicle largely recharged form renewable energy sources such as the solar panels mounted on our houses. We also support pure simple state of the art battery plug-in technology over complex hybrid vehicle technology.
This is Part 1 of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV review.

2012 Mitsubishi i-MiEV
The new four-door all-electric Mitsubishi i-MiEV (also known as the Mitsubishi i) is the most affordable EV available in the U.S., with a price that undercuts the Nissan Leaf by more than $6,000. But you pay for that lower price, according to Cars.com Executive Editor Joe Wiesenfelder, who says you're better off with the Leaf.

The U.S. version is bigger and includes more features than the Japanese and European versions in order to meet crash standards and the preferences of the U.S. consumers. The American i MiEV is 11" longer than the Japanese version, 4.3" wider, and slightly taller. It also has an upgraded interior and feature more accessories, including advanced airbags and a tire-pressure monitoring system.
The roll-out of the i MiEV is scheduled to start in California, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii in November 2011, expanding into the Northeast in March 2012, and nationwide availability by the end of 2012. Mitsubishi announced partnerships with Eaton and Best Buy for sales and home installation of recharging units.
Behind the scenes of building an electric car - The journey
Follow us on a journey of the successes and dissapointments that were tse_10.
Team Swinburne Electric 2010, AKA tse_10, was the first year a group of Swinburne engineering students endevoured to develop and build an Electric Vehicle for the Formula SAE competition. The team hit trouble when they blew up their motor controller, just over a week before the competition. The team then borrowed another motor controller which also ended up blowing. The team then borrowed ANOTHER motor controller, to which they had some success, until the night before the competition, when it also blew up. In total the team blew up 3x $4,000 controllers, 6 times (after repairs). It is thought that the motor is faulty and is causing the issues.

Mitsubishi MiEV Electric Car Wheel Motor Concept
Only about 15% of the energy from the fuel you put in your tank gets used to move your car down the road or run useful accessories, such as air conditioning. The rest of the energy is lost to engine and drive line inefficiencies and idling. Therefore, the potential to improve fuel efficiency with advanced technologies is enormous. With an Electric Car it costs just $2.00 per 100kms with MUCH more performance than with petrol at $20.00 per 100kms.
