1969 Porsche 911T - Resurrection Not Restoration - Part 4
A 44 year old girl needs some massaging, some serious squeezing, some
ironing out, some crack filler, some heat, some canvas and plenty of epoxy
In this episode I get domestic with a steam iron, to reshape the 911 door
bins, clamp the hot-as-hell arm rests, rub endless amounts of Armourall
into plastic parts, fail to repair the cigarette lighter, and find a bunch
of rust hidden under the outer felt window sweeper inside the door.
I also lose some blood getting the new window seals into the track, but I
have plenty more. Also reconditioned are the interior door handles, and
their operation returned to perfect.
I want this car to feel nice to the touch: all the surfaces you come in
contact with normally: door handles, arm rests, door pulls, steering wheel,
switches and gear lever - all these things should feel right to the touch.
Thanks very much to Sean G, my Mum, and Glyn Jones for answering every
question instantly and accurately.
Join me in Part 5 where I'll visit Brent and try to catch him working on my
driver's seat back, which had something press me in the middle of the back,
when I drove it. If it turns out as well as I hope, I'll have him do the
other 3 seat portions as well; I can feel that 44 years has degraded the
horse hair inside the seats, and some modern materials hiding under the old
vinyl will do wonders for how comfortable the car will be.
No swear words were used at all during the making of this video. Strange I
know, but true!
