They drive a car from Sweden to the UK to avoid the snow. And it snows in the UK. We got to play in it though, and that cool air probably made it good for at least 508hp. It's a small-volume concept for now, but we had a C63 on display to add some perspective (actually, just because it was hilarious in the snow)

Let's Talk Cars - 2012 Volvo C30 R Design Review Test Drive
Miami's Community Newspapers Presents "Let's Talk Cars" Featuring automotive editor, Ron Beasley. The Volvo C30 is a two-door hatchback that's sporty, functional and has a lot to offer in the way of standard equipment. The C30 has been around since 2007 and shares most of its mechanicals with the Volvo S40 sedan. But it has less standard equipment, making it Volvo's lowest priced vehicle. The C30 was restyled last year with a new front fascia, new fenders, a new honeycomb grille and new trapezoidal headlights. So there is no design change for 2012. Two new trim levels have been added to complement the base T5 and R-Design models - Premier Plus and Platinum. Premier Plus adds a power glass sunroof, power driver and passenger seats and LED daytime running lights. Platinum adds more technology, including all the features of Premier Plus, and a 10-speaker, 650-watt Volvo Premium Sound System with Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound, a navigation system with real time traffic and Sirius/XM satellite radio. With its compact size, smart design and peppy turbocharged five-cylinder engine, the Volvo C30 really is run to drive. With its relatively wide front and rear tracks and long wheelbase, it has exceptionally stable driving characteristics. Under the hood, there's a 227 HP 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine. It's mated to either a standard six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed geartronic automatic with the auto-stick function. The front-wheel drive C30 gets pretty good fuel economy at 21 miles per gallon around town and 30 MPG on the highway. The C30 T5 comes standard with a healthy roster of standard equipment, including dynamic stability and traction control, Volvo's side impact protection system and whiplash protection seating system, T-Tec upholstery, a leather gearshift knob with aluminum inlay, cruise control, a high performance 160-watt audio system, iPod/USB and auxiliary inputs, High Definition radio, and Bluetooth integrated interface. Other enhancements for all c30s include a standard center armrest for rear seat passengers and standard security alarm. A new exterior color has been added -- Caspian blue metallic. Mercedes-Benz C350 Coupe vs. Volvo C30 T5 'Polestar Conversion'
They may be unlikely competitors, but that doesn't mean this isn't an interesting battle. The Mercedes-Benz C350 Coupe and the Volvo C30 T5 R-Design are the sportiest models available from their respective manufacturers (Monster AMG models not withstanding of course), but they both err on the side of sophistication, and studiously avoid, the boy racer tag. They are stylish, elegant and in the case of the Mercedes-Benz Coupe, downright expensive. The Volvo C30 T5 less so, taking into account its advancing age, but still factoring in its newly available 'Polestar Conversion' that Boosts power up to 184kW & 370Nm. We like the Volvo C30, always have, and that's why we're sitting it such a stiff challenge; putting it up against the rear wheel drive Mercedes-Benz with 224kW & 370Nm. The C350 Coupe also sports some clever new suspension technology called 'agility control,' that increases the damping pressure based on your driving to keep it level and true at any speed, in any corner. Yes, we know the Mercedes-Benz is twice the price of the Volvo, but hopefully the modified C30 T5 'Polestar Conversion' can upset the outcome... Last one up the hill is a rotten egg.
