This is the beast that mike took over the cliff. It seized up maybe 10 minutes after he rolled it. Sean was driving it at that point. So i rescued the beast with the tow truck that is now at drews. no more easy rescues like this one. at least for a while.
This bolens does work again. Its hard to pull it when its cold, but after it starts, and warms up, you can shut if off and it spins normally again. till it cools. but it still runs perfect and all. Maybe a little less power.
My New WHITE Tractor - Getting It Running
I just watched a video from Lowrida3369 last night, and his Gilson was 5
lug in the back, with the dished in rims, so i'm pretty sure MTD made
gilson and whites. and most likely the montgomery wards as well. At least
from the time period when these were built.
I like this tractor for sure. for a vertical shaft tractor, its actually
pretty strong, and seems well made. And as always, i like the twin
cylinder briggs :) The economy opposed twin cylinders. (because they are
cheaply built opposed twins, not economy on fuel consumption, they really
suck it down) But they do pretty awesome. And if you have alot of extra
gas laying around, they can take care of that fast :)
Maximum RPM 1983 Toyota Tercel
With a 1.6L engine from a Toyota Corolla, possibly also a 1983. Bassically
the same engine, with a larger displacement.
This is the last footage of the Tercel, and the 86 chevy thing. I'm really
not attached to the 86 at all. It was fun, but i don't have years of
awesome memories and fondness for it like i do the tercel.
I got the tercel for free from an awesome guy, pretty sure named Jeff. Him
and his girlfriend had an 80's toyota pickuptruck camper that we always saw
in this apartment complex's parkinglot. We thought the thing was awesome,
so the the one day we left a note on the windshield saying that we didn't
really have any money, and we knew that the guy probably didn't want to
sell it or anything, and if he did want to sell it, it would be for way
more then we could afford anyway, but just wanted to tell him it was
awesome. and we love toyotas alot. I left my number and all, and it
probably said some more stuff. then a few weeks, maybe a month later, the
guy called me one night. He was confused, but laughed about it, and we
talked for a while. Near the end of the conversation, i said, so, you
don't happen to have any other toyotas that you want to get rid of for
cheap or free do you? and then he told me about "Rat Car". An 83 tercel
SR5 he had sitting up on cinderblocks behind his parents shed that he was
planing on scraping that spring. But, the inside was totally covered with
mouse piss and shit. (not half as bad as the monte) And he kept going off
on how hilarious it was that it was an sr5, with the big aluminum rims,
lumbar support, tach, sunroof, a few other things too i don't remember. He
had got it for cheap when his main car broke one time and was getting
fixed. he was going to drive it for just a few weeks or so till he got
that car back. But "Rat Car" (nothing to do with the mouse poop) out lived
his main car, and i believe 2 more cars after that. :) it just couldn't
be killed. And then he had new tires on it, so when he put it behind the
shed for 6 years or so, he put it up on blocks to keep the tires good.
So i got the car, put it in my name, and drove it on the road for a while.
it was amazing. it was so much fun you didn't even notice the smell. Just
an amazing vehicle toyota created there. even though its kinda ugly, its
just so perfect... :) incredible gas mileage, even with the larger engine
i got 30 MPG when i checked it. It was pretty fucking quick too. handled
A few months after i got the car, i was watching some old video footage i
took when i was pumping gas at the local gas station, in probably 2001 or
2002, and i was filming customers as i went up to their cars, i went up to
a car, and the guy stuck his face out the window and made a funny face type
thing. then i saw on the sticker on the window on the side of the car, and
then the SR5 logo down on the body trim. IT WAS RAT CAR, and jeff. :)
Anyway, this was one of the more sad vehicles to leave. I'm not really ok
Also in the video the 86 doesn't have any oil in it, and we were hoping to
blow it up or something, but the stupid fuel problem it always had would
only let it rev up for a second or so... Stupid. Then near the end it
kinda stalls, and we just don't start it again. it didn't lock up or
anything. Was a fun truck though.
Bolens 1050, resurected after 4 years
I finally decided to get this 1050 going again. i bought it a few years
earlier... for get how much. maybe 100 bucks? 1966, FIrst year of the
1050's. so it had a TR-10D engine, with a magneto, instead of a 12V coil.
one of the people who owned it before me, painted the whole thing, and
got a new hood for it, that said, G10, which was a way later model tube
frame. same bassic thing, but with alot of minor differences, steering
wheel, shifters, body panels, that kind of thing. so i put a 1050 hood on
the beast, to give it some of its dignity back! :) then it ran out of gas
or something in the creek, and i left it there, for a long time. it filled
up with water, eventually it got drug out, and the water in the block
froze, cracked it.
then i did all this.
the clutch was stuck together, so it just drove in gear. i spent 3 or 4
hours, Taking the whole long driveshaft/clutch assymbally out, and takeing
all the rusted solid parts off the thing, a wirebrushed, and greased
everything back to normal. so now! it works. after this video. we
were romping it too. but it needs some belts, its only got that one
dryrotted one from the video, and thats gonna let us down soon i'm sure.
its an excelent bolens now though! :)
5 Horsepower Briggs Restoration Project and How to unseize pistons and valves
May be a while on the rest, just hang in there, I will eventually work on
this again, its just going to take alot of money to get it bored out and
sleeved, new valves, new piston/rings, new rod, everything! i found an old
briggs and stratton engine block with a thrown rod, seized piston and
valves. In this video i unseize the piston and valves, and remove them. And
begin the clean up process. Cylinder might have to bored. Also note, i said
on the video that i may need a new piston because of the stuck rings, not
necessarily true, because the rings should come off with no problem. Unless
the piston is scored or worn, it shouldn't need replaced. Thanks for
watching, and please subscribe!
How To Make A Hydro Bolens Chain Drive
unfortunatly you can only easily make the Hydro tube frame bolens chain
drive. We're still trying to figure out a way to make the Gear drive ones,
that have the pullys between the clutch plates chain drive. It seems at
the least, welding a steel sprocket onto cast iron is required... not the
greatest thing. i'll make a video some time showing why it maybe almost
impossible without a machine shop.
But yeah! if you have a tube frame bolens, with a hydro trans, and you are
tired off the belts slipping in deep water (and i'm guessing we are
probably the only idiots who actually take hydro bolens into water deep
enough for that) then this is how you do it :) ANY questions at all,
please ask :)
Pretty Crazy tractor romp day!
This was a day or 2 before i fixed the willys, and 1 day after me and drew
got the willys out of the canopy. Alot of crazy stuff went down :) Good
day! Testing these tractors as much as we can!
Bolens G8 Riding mower
Yep, Riding mower :) This is no tractor, but it is a cool little riding
mower. Still better made then any of the riding mowers from the last 20
years or so. But yeah, in the 60's, bolens was putting out riding mowers
with their garden tractors to compete with the competition in the smaller,
cheaper market. And they made some really ugly machines, but they probably
held up pretty well. Sourced out the transmissions, and its just belt
drive, but still, sturdy little things :)
My New bolens 1455 - Large Frame
This is my new 1969 (i think) Bolens Husky 1455 Large Frame garden tractor.
Hydro, 14 hp solid state ignition wisconsin engine. 275 bucks :) Works
pretty good now. Smokes like a bastard :)
Magic Potion to unstick an engine part 1
I whipped this concoction up to soak the cylinders with in my Oldsmobile.
In part 2 we'll see if it works.
Also, if you wonder what the difference is in stuck, frozen and seized,
there is none. Stuck just sounds like there's a better chance of getting it
to move again :-)
Disclaimer: There is no guarantee that a stuck engine will run correctly
after they get freed up, so try this method at your own risk. Internal
parts including the engine block itself could be damaged. Even if the
engine does run, often there is cylinder or ring damage resulting in
excessive oil consumption.
How to free seized nuts and connections in seconds
Freeze - Off the easy way to free seized nuts, bolts and connections
without resorting to oxyacetylene, advanced penetrating oil with unique
ability to attack and break down rusted connections in seconds, produces a
freezing effect which draws the heat out the metal, high alochol content
breaks down rust,
leaves no residue, can be painted contains a light oil to maintain movement
after use. The industry call it the RUSTCRACKER from
Romping tractors in deep mud/swamp/creek!
There is cursing in this video. Taking these 60's garden tractors back
through the woods, and the through the crazyiest stuff we can find.
through all the mud, swamps, and the deep ass creek. mikes bolens 1000 was
running off a magneto, and i didn't know if it was reliable enough to be
going through 2 and a half feet of water with. When i first put that
Wisconsin Tr-10D engine on it, i hooked up the magneto, and it ran
horribly. so i threw a coil on it, and it ran perfect. and i just stuck
with that all last year. then i took the Startergenerator off of it, and
made it pull start. not having a battery anymore, i took the 12V coil off
of it, and returned the beast to the magneto. and it seems to run fine...
but i really thought it wouldn't take that water well at all. It was a
Crazy thing, the other tractor, the 1050, with the 850 engine has a 12V
coil, and that actually died in the middle of the creek! for a few
seconds. i shook the coil wire off, and it started right back up. :)
good thing too, because that water was cold, and i don't know how we were
gonna get those 550 pound tractors out of the creek... haha
oh yeah, and early on the rubber flex plate/u-joint type thing on mikes
1220 exploded when we were going around the circle. and thats a first!
never had that problem before. i should probably go and fix that today.
Engine Running NO OIL - NO SUMP - Seized Soild on Camera
Messing with a Mitsubishi Lancer
There are loads of videos where people run an engine at full rev with no
oil in it, and the engine seizes.
Running it a medium rev, I wanted to see how long it would run with no
lubrication, and I was surprised.
However if the car was driving and the engine was under load, it would be
dead in minutes!
