Replacing OEM Spark Plugs on the Gasoline model 2006 Ford Escape XLS 2.3L 4-Cylinder FWD w/Manual Transmission.
The replacement is scheduled at 100,000 Miles. Mine didn't happen at 100K because the dealership decided to not do the task. At least they did not charge for the work not performed.
For being 110,445-Mile Spark Plugs, mine were in decent shape. I suppose no harm, no foul ;^)
2006 Ford Escape XLS - Accessory Drive Repair
Replacing the Serpentine Belt, Tensioner & Idler Pulleys on a 2006 Ford
Escape XLS 2.3L I4 w/5-Speed Manual Transmission and A/C installed.
The Symptom was Drive Belt Noise.
Troubleshot by removing Old Drive Belt to check all Accessory Pulleys.
Found Idler Pulley with a little too much Play and the Tensioner spring
seemed a bit weak.
Dealership Estimate: $412 (TAX Included)
My Own Hands: $132 (TAX & S/H Included)

Ford Escape Spark plugs
If your a do-it-yourselfer and you want to change your own spark plugs,
here's how to do it. You can see the front plugs easy but the back ones
are buried under the intake. But don't worry, you simply take the intake
off. No special tools are needed, just take your time and be careful
2006 Ford Escape XLS - Throttle Body & IAC Valve
FIRST OF ALL: The gas/accelerator pedal itself does NOT stick or bind, at
least not in my car. The Throttle Cable has clean movement within its
holder as well. However, I used the term "Gas Pedal Sticking" due to the
similar effect caused by a binding Throttle Plate (aka Butterfly Valve).
Sometimes one would have to stomp on the accelerator a quick pump or two to
break away the Butterfly Valve within the Throttle Body. The binding would
diminish as soon as the engine came up to operating temperature and the car
had been running for at least 20-30 minutes. There was never a time when it
was stuck in full-throttle (full open), but I would imagine it possible if
this component were never cleaned.
Good Luck and pay attention to what you see when you clean your Throttle
Body...take before and after pictures!
How to remove Throttle Body & Idle Air Control Valve for inspection and
In my experience, cleaning the Throttle Body to this make and model is good
to do at every 20,000 miles.
====== Information from this car's Service Manual ======
IDLE AIR CONTROL (IAC) VALVE
NOTE: The IAC valve assembly is not adjustable and cannot be cleaned, also
some IAC valves are normally open and others are normally closed. Some IAC
valves require engine vacuum to operate.
The IAC valve assembly controls the engine idle speed and provides a
dashpot function. The IAC valve assembly meters intake air around the
throttle plate through a bypass within the IAC valve assembly and throttle
body. The PCM determines the desired idle speed or bypass air and signals
the IAC valve assembly through a specified duty cycle. The IAC valve
responds by positioning the IAC valve to control the amount of bypassed
air. The PCM monitors engine RPM and increases or decreases the IAC duty
cycle in order to achieve the desired RPM.
The PCM uses the IAC valve assembly to control:
1) No touch start
2) Cold engine fast idle for rapid warm-up
3) Idle (corrects for engine load)
4) Stumble or stalling on deceleration (provides a dashpot function)
5) Over-temperature idle Boost
THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR
The TP sensor is a rotary potentiometer sensor that provides a signal to
the PCM that is linearly proportional to the throttle plate/shaft position.
The sensor housing has a 3-blade electrical connector that may be gold
plated. The gold plating increases corrosion resistance on terminals and
increases connector durability. The TP sensor is mounted on the throttle
body. As the TP sensor is rotated by the throttle shaft, 4 operating
conditions are determined by the PCM from the TP.
Those conditions are:
1) Closed throttle (includes idle or deceleration)
2) Part throttle (includes cruise or moderate acceleration)
3) Wide open throttle (includes maximum acceleration or de-choke on crank)
4) Throttle angle rate.

Replacing blown out spark plug
A common problem with Ford Triton engines is that they will blow the spark
plug out, usually # 3 or # 4 on the passenger side. Some people say the
only repair is to take the head off. There is a tool designed to drill
out, re-tap, & install an insert. I've done it many times and so far they
all are still holding. I thought you might like to see how it's done
before you do one yourself.
Ford Escape P0351-P0356 coil on plug circuit failure
this is a video of the ford escape Powertrain Control module failure on a
3.0 v6 . the ford tsb is as follows remove one spark plug if its older non
date coded spark plug the RF interference caused a back feed to the PCM
drivers causing them to short circuit destroying the drivers.
ford can oscilloscope test the pcm to see if its faulty so i would strongly
suggest doing this first. once pcm is deemed the culprit after ohm testing
all wires. the six coil on plugs and spark plugs need (no exception) must
be replaced. after installing new pcm it will need to be programmed and
updated to the new ford pids and upgrades. i strongly recommend motorcraft
plugs to avoid any further issues.
And that is what this video instructs i how to replace it all

An easier way to remove and install the alternator on a V6 ford escape and V6 mazda tribute.
Removing or installing the alternator in my V6 ford escape which is similar
to the V6 Mazda tribute. This alternator job is one of those what in the
world were they thinking kind of repairs, I am very disappointed with Ford
for making what is normally an easy job, into a job from hell, indeed,
what were they thinking? it is like it was done on purpose to cause you to
give up and go to ford, the reason I posted this in the first place was
because I searched every where I could to find an easy method, What I found
was comments of frustration and disbelief about the location of this dam
alternator, so when I found a way to bring it up between the engine and
firewall it was easy peasy, a sigh of relief, and a faster way to change out this alternator.
That was what motivated me to put up this video, I thought maybe someone
else is facing the same situation and is feeling very uncomfortable about
messing with CV joints, we all know how expensive they are to replace and
if that boot gets damaged the results could be disastrous! So I say why
mess with it when you can change this from the top? Just get a good pad to
lay on the engine when bring up the alternator, that's the way I did it,
and had no problems at all.
Once you try it, you will see how really easy and fast this job can be, I
hope you have success like I did.
