Mercedes C-Class estate review - CarBuyer
Full review: http://www.carbuyer.co.uk/reviews/mercedes/c_class/estate/review Mercedes knew there was room for improvement with the C-Class, and the latest estate doesn't disappoint. The interior has been redesigned, with higher-quality materials, a more attractive dash and a slick integrated media screen. Changes outside are more subtle, and include new bumpers and lights. It's still not the most spacious estate, but with a clean new range of direct-injection petrol and diesel engines, all featuring stop-start technology, it's one of the most efficient premium models on the market. It's as comfortable as the C-Class saloon, too, plus has the same wide range of options. This interior modernisation is supplemented with a new telematics generation that not only includes completely redesigned displays, but also makes onboard internet access available. Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate (2012) A total of more than 2,000 new components distinguish the latest generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class from its predecessor. Both the Saloon and Estate versions can be ordered from 10 January 2011. The European market launch will take place from March 2011. In addition to the standard appointments - which now include a leather steering wheel - the two design and equipment lines ELEGANCE and AVANTGARDE are the basis for the individualisation programme of the C-Class. The two lines are now even more readily distinguishable from each other. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is the highest-selling model series for Mercedes-Benz. The current series has found well over one million buyers worldwide since its launch in March 2007. Since the introduction of the first Mercedes-Benz C-Class in 1982 (then known as the model 190), Mercedes-Benz has sold more than 8.5 million vehicles in total in this segment. In 2010 too, the C-Class has repeatedly won top places in the registration statistics. Dynamic, resolute, self-assured: the exterior The front bumper has more expressive and dynamic contours, with the front section being brought in line with the brand's new design idiom. The radiator grille surround is now more prominent. The central air intake opens out upwards in a V-shape, forming a visual base unit for the radiator grille. Pronounced side sections extend from the sporty V-shape at the centre of the bumper. Continuing beneath the headlamps, these sections blend into the feature lines along the vehicle flanks, linking the front section with the sides. The side air inlets in the bumper are positioned low down, giving the car a more road-hugging appearance. The Saloon and Estate now have a new aluminium bonnet, which contributes to weight reduction and therefore enhances fuel efficiency. Its contour in the area of the headlamps and radiator grille emphasises the V-shape of the front section more heavily than before. In conjunction with the newly designed headlamps, this gives the front section a more resolute impression. The shape of the clear-lens headlamps has been modified to create a more dynamic and resolute impression, and to act together with the bonnet, radiator grille and bumper to emphasise the V-shape of the front section. This impression is reinforced by both the exterior form of the headlamps and the interior of the housings. The headlamps show their modernity by precision and an interplay between matt and high-sheen areas. The halogen headlamps are arranged in the classic way, with low beam on the outside, high beam on the inside and the indicators neatly arranged in the outer corner formed with the front wing. If the optional bi-xenon headlamps with the Intelligent Light System (ILS) are specified, the impression of depth is reinforced by a row of lighting modules. A position light with a distinctive C-shape emphasises the night design. Behind it is a cornering light extending to the main headlamp module on the outside. All three levels are connected by a transverse strip extending through the complete headlamp interior with dark contrasts, shiny areas and matt areas. A visual base in the lower section of the headlamp is formed by a horizontal broadband LED indicator unit. The horizontal LED daytime running lamps in the bumper also make the Mercedes-Benz C-Class unmistakable from a distance.

Full review: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carreviews/grouptests/267349/mercedes_cclass_vs_rivals.html#ixzz1Ly3PgUdG Welcome to the toughest of three-way fights. The models in this test dominate the compact executive sector, but does the arrival of the revised Mercedes C-Class upset the established order? The German company has carried out what it's calling a 'comprehensive modernisation' to help the saloon leapfrog the BMW 3-Series and Audi A4. Revised exterior styling, cleaner engines and a better-quality cabin are a few of the changes to have been rolled out, but will they be enough?

Mercedes Benz E-class Estate S123 Development
The Mercedes-Benz W123 cars were produced from 1976 through 1985. The W123 models surpassed their predecessor, the W114/W115 "stroke-8" models, as the most successful Mercedes, selling over 2.5 million cars, before being replaced by the W124 after 1985. Also, the additional, smaller range of Mercedes-Benz W201 models was introduced in 1982. As usual, model names were related to engine sizes, type of engine and chassis type • D for Diesel, • E for Einspritzung (fuel injection) • Lang for Long Wheelbase • T for Transport and Tourism (estate/station wagon) • C for Coupé Mercedes-Benz introduced the W123 four-door versions in January, 1976[2]. While there was some technical similarities to their predecessors, the new models were larger in wheelbase and exterior dimensions. The styling was also updated, although stylistic links with the /8 while were maintained. Initially, all models except 280/280E featured quad unequal-size round headlights and the latter large rectangular units. When facelifted these units became standard across the range. All /8 engines were carried over, with the 3 liter 5-cylinder diesel model being renamed from 240D 3.0 to 300D (as it had already been called before in North American markets). The only new engine was the 250's 2525 cc inline-six (Type M123, a short-stroke version of the 2.8 liter six Type M110) that replaced the old 2496 cc Type M114 six. In the spring of 1976, a Coupé version was introduced on a shorter wheelbase than the saloon (2710 mm (106.7 in) versus 2795 mm (110 in)) for the saloon. This W123C/CE was available as a 230C (later 230CE) and as a 280C/CE in most markets; in North America there were additional 300CD versions with naturally aspirated, later turbocharged 3 liter diesel engines. From August, 1977, long wheelbase versions (3425 mm (134.8 in)) were produced. These were available as 7/8 seater saloons with works bodies or as a chassis with complete front body clip, the latter serving as the base for ambulance and hearse bodies by external suppliers like Binz or Miesen. These "Lang" versions could be ordered as 240D, 300D and 250 models. At the Frankfurt Auto Show in September, 1977 the W123T estate was introduced; the T in the model designation stood for "Touring and Transport". All engines derivative except "200TD" weravailable in the range. T production began in March, 1978 in Mercedes' Bremen factory. In early 1979, the diesel models power output was increased; power rose from 55 PS (54 hp/40 kW) to 60 PS (59 hp/44 kW) in the 200D, from 65 PS (64 hp/48 kW) to 72 PS (71 hp/53 kW) in the 240D and from 80 PS (79 hp/59 kW) to 88 PS (87 hp/65 kW) in the 300D; at the same time, the 220D went out of production. The first Mercedes turbo diesel production car appeared in September, 1979. This was the 300 TD turbodiesel, available with automatic transmission only. In most markets, the turbocharged 5-cylinder 3 liter diesel engine (Type OM617) was offered only in the T body style, while in North America it was also available in sedan/saloon and coupe guise. June 1980 saw the introduction of new 4-cylinder petrol engines (Type M102). A new 2 liter four with shorter stroke replaced the old M115, a fuel-injected 2.3 liter version of this engine (in 230E/TE/CE) the old carburetted 230. Both engines were more powerful than their predecessors. In 1980/81 the carburetted 280 versions went out of production; the fuel-injected 280E continued to be offered. In September, 1982, all models received a mild facelift. The rectangular headlights, previously fitted only to the 280/280E, were standardized across the board, as was power steering. Since February, 1982, an optional 5-speed manual transmission was available in all models (except 300 TDT). W123 production ended in November, 1985. Most popular single models were the 240D (455,000 built), the 230E (442,000 built) and the 200D (378,000 built). W123 introduced innovations including ABS (optional from August, 1980), a retractable steering column and an airbag for the driver (optional from 1982). Available options included MB-Tex (Mercedes-Benz Texturized Punctured Vinyl) upholstery or velour or leather upholstery, interior wood trim, right hand side exterior mirror (LHD models, standard on T models), 5-speed manual transmission (European market only), 4-speed automatic transmission (standard in turbodiesel models), power windows with rear-seat switch cut-outs, vacuum powered central locking, rear-facing extra seats (station wagon only), Standheizung (prestart timer controller engine heating), self locking differential, sun roof, air conditioning, climate control, headlamp wipers (European market only), Tempomat (cruise control), power steering (standard after 1982/08), seat heating, CO converter (available from 1984 for California only, from fall (autumn) 1984 also in Germany for the 230E of which one thousand were built).

Mercedes C-Class review - CarBuyer
Full review: http://www.carbuyer.co.uk/reviews/mercedes/c_class/saloon/review Mercedes-Benz has given the C-Class a comprehensive overhaul, and the latest version of the popular saloon is better than ever. The more aggressive new grille and bumpers help it stand out, while inside, the dash has been totally redesigned, with better materials, a modernised layout and a slick new integrated media screen. The very latest face-lifted Mercedes C-Class has over 2,000 new components and whilst it looks familiar on the outside, the changes are most noticeable in the cabin. This raft of improvements make the C-Class a serious contender in the premium compact saloon class and a worthwhile competitor to the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4.

New look for Mercedes' top-selling sedan this summer The restyled MY2012 C-Class • Energetic -- new dynamic look inside and out • Expanded -- five new assistance systems for greater safety • Efficient -- new direct-injection engines with better fuel economy • Experience -- new-generation telematics • Exceptional -- more than one million sold since March 2007 The restyled 2012 C-Class sedan is scheduled to arrive in the U.S. in the summer of 2011. The front and rear end of the popular Mercedes sedan have been enhanced with a more distinctive design. The luxurious interior is now emphasized by the stylish new dashboard, which features a premium, fine-grain finish and stylish trim elements, as well as a high-resolution color display in the instrument cluster. Fuel economy has been improved by as much as 15 percent, thanks to new direct-injection engines and the redesigned 7-speed automatic transmission. Five new driver assistance systems ranging from the ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection system through to the Blind Spot Assist are now available in the C-Class lineup. New generation telematics offer new infotainment and navigation features. "In terms of driveline and safety systems, the new-generation C-Class offers the comfort and safety of our luxury vehicles - and with many high-end details in the interior evocative of the new CLS, the new C-Class sets completely new benchmarks in its segment when it comes to premium look-and-feel," says Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Sales & Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars. This interior upgrade is further enhanced by the latest generation of telematics, which not only features completely new visuals, but also brings improved functionality. A total of more than 2,000 new parts distinguish the newest generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class from its predecessor. The U.S. market introduction is scheduled for summer 2011 (available to order in Europe as of January 2011). Alongside the generous standard equipment, the Sport and Luxury versions of the new C-Class form the basis of the individualization program, with both lines now more clearly differentiated from each other. The C-Class is Mercedes-Benz's highest volume model range, and therefore especially important. The current range has chalked up global sales of more than one million units since its launch in March 2007. Since the market introduction of the first C-Class in 1982 (known then as the 190), Mercedes-Benz has sold more than 8.5 million vehicles around the world.
