Dampfschneeschleuder RhB Xrot 9213 im Einsatz auf dem Berninapass am 1. März 2009
Die 1910 beschaffte Dampfschneeschleuder Xrot 9213 ist auch heute noch betriebsfähig. Sie ist die letzte einsatzbereite Dampfschneeschleuder in Europa. Die alte Maschine dient der Rhätischen Bahn immer noch als Notreserve. Manchmal wird sie aber auch einfach zur Begeisterung von Eisenbahnfreunden angeheizt. So auch am 1. März 2009 anläßlich der Veranstaltung "Schnee und Eis" auf dem Berninapass von Pontresina nach Bernina Ospizio. Leider war das Wetter nicht so schön. Trotzdem war es eine eindrucksvolle Demonstration. Dank an die RhB und den Veranstalter für die hervorragende Organisation!

This is How you Pickup a Locomotive on the Road. Vol. 1
On July 30, 2011, I headed north From Colorado Springs to Palmer Lake, Colorado to do some railfanning. Needless to say it was not just any day of railfanning.
On this day, BNSF 4871 was leading the H-DENBEL, a priority freight from Denver to Belen, NM. Dispatch told the crew of the 4871 to cut off from the train, and pick up BNSF 9412, a SD70MAC on the Palmer Lake house tracks. In order for them to pick up the 9412, the 4871 had to hook up to it nose to nose, because this was a one way in track with the switch facing north. The next forward facing unit, BNSF 672 would cut away from the 9412, and 4871 and become the new leader. The 9412 and 4871 reversed out of the house tracks to hook up to the new leader now parked on the main track.
All in all this was a simple power grab, and all this was performed in roughly 2 hours.
