Bad Night At Silver Dollar Raceway
Went to SDR April 6, 2012. This is the video of my second and final pass of the night. I made the first pass on Toyo R888s. I smoked the launch, missed third, and the car wiggled all the way down the track. Coulda been the tires or the track or both. Swapped out Toyos for my trusty M&H Racemaster drag radials for second pass. 15 psi. Burnout seemed fine. Like the first pass on the Toyos I smoked the launch. I let off the gas then got back on it. As you can see, I started getting sideways a little and let off the gas again. When I got back on it for the second time that's when all hell broke loose. Upon looking at the video during editing, it appears I pulled a little too wide to the left to miss the cone at the start, got out of the groove and never got back in. Anyway I didn't know that at the time and it dampened my mood - I didn't feel like smacking the wall or running into the racer in the next lane 2 1/2 hours from home. Plus the wait time between passes was long and getting longer. That place was packed! Given my mood and obvious inability to drive, I decided to load up and drive home. On a positive note, I did get to meet some nice folks. On a side note, on the way home I seemed to be going really, really fast. I mean really fast. Kept checking the speedo - everything seemed ok except that I was passing everyone at high speed. Then it dawned on me. When I switched the tune back, I forgot to adjust the diff gear setting and tire revs per mile (car was tuned with different gear and tires and I don't know how to make the changes for new tires and gear permanent). Pulled off the interstate and made the change. Whata dummy.
