Small Block Valve Cover Gaskets
Small Block Valve Cover Gaskets.Just a look at how I replace valve cover gaskets. One of the main things do not over tighten. Some aftermarket valve covers for small block chevy`s are thicker and will not bend or flex as much as stock small block chevy gaskets do. I use a little RTV on the valve cover side .Do not use to much RTV ,or it will squeeze in to the small block engine.
Proform GM Performance Parts 2 Piece Valve Cover video
Proform's patented innovative 2 piece valve covers take trackside adjustability to a whole new level. These premium die-cast aluminum valve covers are available in 5 different styles including polished, chome, and black crinkle finishes. Unscrew the six oversized bolts on the top allows the cover to open up. The high wall on the Exhaust side keeps the oil in so there's no mess.
Worried about leaks...never fear because we've taken care of that too. The flat, held in-place, gasket is mostly covered on the inside of the valve cover by an overlap from the top piece to the bottom piece.
Investigating Chevy 305 burning oil at idle
[[UPDATE: after wasting money on valve stem seals without fully investigating what the issue definitely was, i finally took off the right side valve cover which has NEVER been taken off..i found the the rear oil drain hole (theres 2, 1 in the front 1 in the back of the head) was plugged with fiber which is from the 10 year old air filter i had been using..so basically the ENTIRE valve cover was filling with oil force feeding oil into the cylinders. Goes to show, routine maintenance is not a joke..i figured an air filter is an air filter, but i guess not lol. After 10 minutes of idling the Exhaust will start making blue smoke and it looks kinda like "Uncle Buck" lol. It VERY rarely smokes when i drive, only when i take off.

This would have cost me between $1200-$1600 as a local shop. depending on where i took it.
i did this job my self for just over $200 including the fallowing:
head gasket kit
new head bolts
new coolant reservoir
new coolant
new spark plugs
RTV Black sealant
Quick set epoxy
and some coolant system flush.
for me it was better than buying a new car...
lets hope it lasts...
