Györ, the Hungarian city on the Danube, is an ideal location for the manufacturing of high-tech engines and cars. Its merits lie not merely in the high availability of skilled workers and highly qualified university graduates.
AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft., a fully owned subsidiary of AUDI AG, builds over 1.9 million engines there each year, and assembles the Audi TT model range and the A3 Cabriolet, among other vehicles, in tandem with the Ingolstadt plant. Audi Hungaria is the principal engine supplier of the Audi and Volkswagen Groups, one of Hungary's highest revenue enterprises and also one of the country's biggest exporters.
ENGINE MANUFACTURING - Engine production (pre-series) started as long ago as the end of 1993. The engine production plant in Györ, Hungary, was inaugurated in October 1994. With this move, Audi not only safeguarded its international competitiveness, it also created a strategic base in Hungary that is gaining increasingly in importance. Györ now produces almost the entire range of Audi engines. Some 400 different versions of basic engines are built there: four, six, eight, ten and twelve-cylinder engines featuring both TDITDISynonymous with muscular torque delivery and outstanding efficiency: TDI. Today, TDI engines are sporty, smooth and economical.TDI and FSIFSIGetting more out of every drop of petrol.FSI technology. The ten millionth engine was completed there in June 2005. Volume production of the new four-cylinder common rail engines started in October 2007.
VEHICLE ASSEMBLY - Assembly of the Audi TT models at Györ commenced in April 1998. The first second-generation Audi TT Coupé left the Audi Hungaria production line in April 2006, and was followed by the first TT Roadster of the same generation in that November. The bodyshells, which have already been painted in Germany, are brought by train from Ingolstadt to Györ, where they are delivered to the assembly hall. By the end of 2007, 382,445 Audi TT Coupé and TT Roadster cars as well as 216 of the new Audi A3 Cabriolet had been assembled in partnership with the Ingolstadt plant. Audi has systematically realised a new, process-oriented production concept at the plant -- with short distances and fast, direct flows, from the delivery of parts to the transportation of the assembled cars.

► 2012 BMW 3 Series CRASH TEST
The passenger compartment of the 3 Series remained stable in the frontal impact. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. BMW showed that a similar level of protection would be provided for occupants of different sizes and to those sat in different positions. In the side barrier test, all body regions were well protected and the car scored maximum points. In the more severe side pole test, protection of the chest and abdomen was adequate and that of the head and pelvis was good. The seat and head restraint provided good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision.
Based on dummy restults in the dynamic tests, the 3 Series scored maximum points for its protection of the 18 month infant, and lost only a fraction of a point for protection of the 3 year old. In the frontal impact, forward movement of the head of the 3 year dummy, sat in a forward facing restraint, was not excessive. In the side impact, both dummies were properly contained by the protective shells of their restraints, minimising the likelihood of contact with parts of the car's interior. A switch is available as an option to deactivate the passenger airbag, allowing a rearward facing child restraint to be used in the passenger seat. This was not assessed as it is not standard equipment. There were clear warnings of the dangers of using a rearward facing restraint in that seating position without having deactivated the airbag.
Both the bumper and the front edge of the bonnet provided good protection to pedestrians and the car scored maximum points in these areas. In almost all areas where a child's head might strike, the bonnet provided good protection but was predominantly poor in those areas likely to be struck by an adult's head.

Bremen - The Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen is gearing up for the production of a fourth model of the high-volume C-Class model range. As of 2011, a Coupé will be added to a flexible production line, which already produces the three existing models. This will be a new addition to Bremen's current production portfolio in the C-Class segment, comprising the Saloon, the Estate and the compact GLK sport utility vehicle (SUV).
"The decision by the Board of Management to produce the Coupé version of the current C-Class here in Bremen as well represents another important milestone on our way to becoming Mercedes' competence centre for the C-Class and is a clear sign of the trust in the Bremen team's capabilities and standards," says Peter Schabert, Head of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen.
The Bremen plant is developed into the worldwide competence centre for the high-volume C-Class model series. Allocating production of the new Coupé to the plant is in keeping with this strategy. As announced in December 2009, the launch of the next generation of the C-Class at the plant as of 2014 will see production of the C-Class Saloon for markets in Europe concentrated at a single location together with the production of the other C-Class model variants.
The Bremen plant is already demonstrating the flexibility of its production operations by producing three models (C-Class Saloon, C-Class Estate and GLK) on a single assembly line. The vehicles are able to pass along the assembly line in any conceivable order precisely as customer orders require, irrespective of model, variant (right- or left-hand drive, all-wheel or rear-wheel drive) and equipment. From 2011 the Bremen plant will be integrating a fourth model into the production process in the guise of the Coupé, demonstrating the plant's flexibility once again.

In addition to the models of the C-Class model series, vehicles belonging to the E-Class are also produced in Bremen, with the Coupé and Cabrio running in flexible configuration on a single production line. The roadsters of the SL- and SLK-Class are also produced exclusively in Bremen. With a workforce of around 12,600, the Mercedes-Benz plant is the largest private-sector employer in the region.
