Using a spark plug defouler kit, I install a "buffer" in between the downstream oxygen sensor and the catalytic converter. Quite often, frustrated car owners get the P0420 code for reasons other than a bad cat. I have heard of people getting the code just because they removed the converter and reinstalled it. It can also happen if you run your vehicle out of gas etc... etc...
It is also common for car owners to get the P0420 code, replace the converter, and both o2 sensors-- only to have the code come back after 1000 miles or so. This can be a very frustrating, time consuming and of course-- expensive venture. Here is one way to resolve the issue. Good luck and have fun!

How to fix p0401 egr code on 3.1 v6
Don't go out and buy a new EGR valve for $100. Heres how to fix it yourself. If you have the code P0401 EGR flow insufficient, just clean the passage way. Using a wire coat hanger or piece of flexible yet strong wire and throttle body cleaner you can clean this yourself. Afterwards make sure to clean out your throttle body of all the crud deposits. This engine is in my 98 Buick century, along with Chevy Malibu, Chevy Lumina, Grand Am, Grand prix. Thanks for watching

2001 Buick Century instrument cluster odometer repair
Had a 2001 Buick century with an instrument cluster that had an inoperatve odometer, PRNDL display. I noticed when I twisted the circuit board that the sisplay would flash on. Found some resistors with cracked solder joints, repaired them and it works again.
