NOTE OF CAUTION!!! Do Not pressurize the hose 100% with house pressure--use brief bursts of water to help break up/move the crud in the core. Using full unrestricted house water pressure will damage your cooling system. No sustained pressure should ever exceed the rated usage pressure for the system. CORRECTION--The thermostat on this engine is actually located at the rear of the engine.
Flushing a 1997 Taurus Heater Core. This Era Taurus has a cooling system defect which causes the antifreeze to degrade rapidly into a rusty brown sludge in a short time. This defect was addressed by Ford years ago, but the end result still leaves owners of vehicles like this one (a 3.0 engine) to have other problems--like no heat in the winter. The water pumps are also prone to fail. Some vehicles have a heater core bypass installed--this one doesnt. Taurus forums all suggest core isolation and flushing--so this video addresses this process.

i did this job my self for just over $200 including the fallowing:
head gasket kit
new head bolts
new coolant reservoir
new coolant
new spark plugs
RTV Black sealant
Quick set epoxy
and some coolant system flush.
for me it was better than buying a new car...
lets hope it lasts...
God bless and have fun!
Some time life throws you curve balls... for me i swing hoping to hit it out of the park... this time i did! :)

Unclogging A Heater Core - EricTheCarGuy
There is a lot more here than meets the eye, the original video cut was about 16 min long. As you can see we did have some fun. I may post some of the out takes at some time in the future. I thought you might want to cover the process here and that's what I went for.
Thanks to http://www.youtube.com/user/Davidsfarm for the procedure for this and hopefully for letting me post this as a video response to his video.
If I think of anything else I think you need to know with this I'll post it later, for now I have to run.

I actually had fun putting this one together for you since the car I was working on didn't cooperate it made it so I could show you real world problems as they happened, very cool. I think this one is pretty self explanatory so I will save a long explanation. In case you missed the link to the "Bleeding a Cooling System" here is a link for you

How to flush a Heater Core
this is the 1st thing to try if core is blocked or restricted flow or just nasty coolant in engine.
GATES: Cooling System Flush: Cleaning Neglected Vehicles FULL Version
The engine cooling system is one of the most critical elements of engine performance and reliability but is often the most neglected maintenance item for all vehicles on the road today. Common flush procedures are not enough to remove the amount of contaminants present in neglected vehicles. With the Gates PowerClean tool, technicians can now recommend a more thorough flush procedure to consumers. Doing so will increase engine cooling efficiency, protect the life of the water pump and eliminate unnecessary customer comebacks.

F150 Heater Core part 1
This is a 3 part video on how to replace a heater core on a Ford F150
Routine Maintenance: Radiator Flush
How to properly flush your radiator and put new coolant in it and to test that you flushed it and put everything back properly. Please make sure the engine is NOT HOT when you take off your radiator cap. You can scald yourself from steam, hot coolant, or the cap itself. Produced By:Ryan Hitchner
Mystery of the Gurgling Heater Core
The heater core on my 1998 Dodge Ram was gugrling air on startup, sounding like a percolating coffee maker when I would start the engine in the morning. I approached the problem by purging the system of air and then searching for a cause after that. The heater core was noisy but it never leaked fluid.
This is not an instructional video and I am not a professional mechanic. This video is published for entertainment porposes only.
Recharing A/C 2001 Taurus
The Air Conditioning lately has not been as cold as it was when the car was new. I remember when it was first bought, the A/C would hurt your feet it blew so cold. Idling in traffic would result in luke-warm air only slightly cooler than ambient. The only way to get cold air was driving down the highway on recirculating air (MAX AC)
A sort-of guide on doing this
Some things to note - the valve system, gauge and can setup may be different depending on which kit is bought.
The pressure changes while on regular ac and MAX AC (recirculatory). I also drained and added a few times to "flush" the system and get the new R134 with lubrication into the system.
Hold the can upside down and shake it (now shown due to not having 3 hands!)

Heater Core Flushing - 1994 Chevy Caprice LT1/L99 DIY Wagon 350 V8
Here is a video of me flushing out my heater core...here are the symptoms to make me do this:
Heater had very little heat, even when the car was up to temperature, verified by the dash gauge and laptop reader. Temperature into the heater core was super hot, but water returning from the core was only kinda hot...aka not much flow so most of the heat was being removed from the water.
Repair:
To take the heater core system and wash it out with clear water, insert a "cleaning" product to dissolve any gunk that didn't get rinsed out, and then rinse that out. Return it to service. If the buildup in the core isn't too bad, this should Boost flow through the heater core.
Result? It worked. A few bigger pieces of stuff came out during the initial rinse and some rusty colored water came out after the cleaning solution. The heat out of the heater core at idle is very hot, so flow has appeared to have been restored.
1998 Ford Taurus Water Pump Replacement Part 1
Replacing the water pump on a 1998 Ford Taurus with the standard 3.0l OHV V6. After 228,000 miles, I'm replacing the water pump because the engine doesn't maintain the proper running temperature.
How To Bleed A Cooling System - EricTheCarGuy
How To Bleed A Cooling System - EricTheCarGuy
Kind of a request, I've described this procedure a few times in print but never made a video. As I said in the video if your having issues with a fluctuating idle, no heat, or an overheat problem you may want to start here. Also, if you have just serviced the cooling system in any way this is the procedure I recommend to fill it back up. The only regret I have with this one is the end where I didn't shoot footage of closing up the radiator using the tool that I used in the video, I may show it at some point in the future.
