2013 Mazda2 Test Drive & Sub-Compact Car Video Review
http://www.autobytel.com/mazda/mazda2/2013/ With gas prices on the never ending rise, subcompact cars like the 2013 Mazda2 are becoming more popular. 10 years ago there were few of these vehicles on the market. Now it seems every manufacturer is looking to gain some ground in this niche. The Mazda2 is one of the more popular subcompact cars thanks to its low cost, good gas mileage ratings, and fun to drive characteristics. In Europe, subcompact cars are the norm; but here in the U.S. they are just now beginning to have an impact. The 2013 Mazda2 has a base price of $14,720. The Mazda2 started life out in Japan, Europe, and Australia back in 2007. But this little car can trace its roots back to the late 1990's as the Demio. The Mazda2 appeared here in the U.S. as a 2011 model. Usually subcompact cars are bland and boring little appliances suited for monotonous driving situations. The Mazda2 is just the opposite as this little car is filled with style as evident by some of the extreme optional paint colors. Up front the Mazda2 still has the happy face bumper treatment that many Mazda's vehicles share. Going forward though; look for a more aggressive look as evident by the new 2014 Mazda6 redesign. There are some sporty touches with the lower lip on the front fascia and the sharp looking headlights. The 2013 Mazda2 share a lot of the design elements seen on its larger siblings like the puffed out fenders and the side character line. This car also gets 15-inch alloy wheels standard. Out back the roof spoiler finishes off a pretty exciting exterior look for the subcompact car class. Under the hood is a 1.5 liter MZR 4-cylinder engine capable of producing 100 horsepower and 98 lb-ft. of torque. That may not sound like much but keep in mind the 2013 Mazda2 is a feather weight at just over 2300 lbs. Fuel economy is great at 29 MPG in the city and 35 MPG on the highway with the 5-speed manual. The interior is almost the opposite as the exterior. The inside of the Mazda2 is simple and minimalistic. But again this is the most entry level vehicle Mazda makes so we are not expecting much. Surprisingly the 2013 Mazda2 does come with some nice features including: BlueTooth, IPod connectivity, Steering wheel controls, air conditioning, and nice comfortable seats. With a base price of $21,200 the Mazda3 hatchback gives you precise steering, a wonderful gearbox, good fuel economy, and sexy looks. The exterior of the car is bold and unusual. The car is powered by a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine that puts out 148 horsepower and 135 lb-ft. of torque. If you are looking for more power you can jump up to the Mazdaspeed3 with adds turbo power into the mix. But for the price the 2012 Mazda3 5-Door is tough to beat. Fuel economy checks in at 25 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway. The hatchback design adds tons of usable cargo space as compared to the regular sedan version of this car. 2012 Scion xD Test Drive and Car Review
http://www.autobytel.com/scion/xd/2012/ The 2012 Scion xD is a car that has been marketed to the younger generation since its inception. But the xD is more than just a sub-compact teenager car. Instead the Scion xD is affordably priced, it gets solid fuel economy, it looks good, and comes packed with a ton of standard features and options; making it an appealing vehicle for a broad spectrum of car buyers. And the best part if the 2012 Scion xD only costs $15,345. The best thing about the Scion line-up is that all the vehicles they make are pretty hip and sporty. They all drive well and get excellent fuel economy. The second best thing about the Scion brand is that they are a no non-sense company. Meaning they offer one trim level per vehicle. So the Honda Accord or Ford F-150 for instance can have up to 30 different trim levels. Not so with the 2012 Scion xD. There is one model available with either a manual or automatic transmission. From there you can add on tons of options for the engine, suspension, interior, and exterior. Toyota Racing Development (TRD) makes tons of parts for the Scion xD which can be ordered directly through the dealership. Want a cool performance Exhaust or sport air filter? TRD makes those. Want to lower your ride and add stiffer suspension components? No problem as those can be bought and installed from any Scion dealership. The options for exterior, interior, and performance modifications are numerous. In the end you can have a very unique automobile right from the factory. The 2012 Scion xB is powered by a 1.8 liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 128 horsepower and 125 lb-ft. of torque. Not a whole lot but this is a sub-compact car and it does not take much to get it going. Also remember the xD is quite inexpensive so you cannot expect to have a high powered motor. The small engine makes for great fuel economy with the 2012 Scion xD netting 27 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway. The Scion xD comes standard with many great features like air conditioning, power everything, cruise control, keyless entry, a Pioneer audio system, Bluetooth, and HD radio. The 2012 Scion xD is also very safe getting top ratings in 12 of the 13 IIHS categories. The overall driving dynamics are spectacular, the SKYACTIV Technology saves fuel, and the overall base price is unbelievable at $20,695. This 5 passenger crossover SUV has proven the Mazda is committed to creating vehicles that are not only fuel efficient, but a blast to drive. The 2013 Mazda CX-5 is powered by a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft. of torque. There are two transmissions available: a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. Fuel economy is 26 MPG in the city and 35 MPG on the highway. SKYACTIV is a suite of technology that work together in the name of fuel economy. First the compression ratios were increased, next the SKYACTIV engines use direct injection, finally the friction levels inside the engine and moving parts were decreased. On the transmission side the SKYACTIV-Drive is both smooth and efficient; offering an increase in fuel economy by 7% on average. On the outside the 2013 Mazda CX-5 continues the bold design direction Mazda has been following the past few years. Mazda calls this KODO or soul of motion. And you can see this style is present on the way the lines of the CX-5 curve and have movement. The roofline slopes towards the rear of the crossover which not only looks cool but also helps with the airflow over the vehicle. The 17-inch stock alloy wheels look great but the Grand Touring model gets 19-inch rims. The interior of the CX-5 is both sporty and refined. The steering wheel has controls for the stereo and Bluetooth. The Grand Touring model gets nice leather seats that are power adjustable and feature heaters. The power moonroof, push button start, and dual-zone climate control are all features found on more expensive luxury vehicles. There is an integrated navigation system that is powered by TomTom. The rear seats fold flat to increase the amount of cargo room to over 64 cubic feet of storage room. The IIHS named the 2013 Mazda CX-5 to their list of top safety picks. The CX-5 sports a ton of features and technology like Blind Spot Monitoring, Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control, and more. There are dual airbags up front as well as side impact curtains both front and rear. The 2013 Mazda CX-5 raises the bar when it comes to the compact crossover SUV class.
