The 2008 Volvo C30 is a new 2-door hatchback and is Volvo's smallest car for the U.S. market at 8.5 inches shorter than the S40 sedan. Most of their line-up consists of sedans and crossover utility vehicles and the C30 is the only coupe in their line-up of vehicles. The 2012 Volvo C30 has a base price of $24,950 with the top of the line R-Design Platinum costing $31,850. But you can add a factory performance upgrade called the Polestar package for under $2000 that will Boost performance significantly.
Volvo did not hold back when it came to powering the C30. Under the hood live a turbocharged 2.5 liter inline 5-cylinder engine that makes 227 horsepower and 236 lb-ft. of torque. Transmission options are a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic. Fuel economy is pretty good for a high performance engine as the 2012 Volvo C30 nets 21 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway. The vehicle featured in this car review video has the $1295 Polestar Performance Package equipped. This package is essential an engine tuner software that adds 23 HP and 37 lb-ft. of torque without sacrificing fuel economy. Also the Polestar Package will not void the factory warranty.
From a styling stand-point the 2012 Volvo C30 really stands apart from the crowd. This coupe appeals to a broad range of car buyers: men and women both young and old. When you opt for the 6-speed manual transmission the fun factor really goes through the roof. On the inside the interior has a very simple Scandinavian look and feel to it. You can even opt for a 650 watt premium sound system. The Volvo C30 is packed with tons of safety features like Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control, and a Whiplash Protection System. The Volvo C30 is a two-door hatchback that's sporty, functional and has a lot to offer in the way of standard equipment.
The C30 has been around since 2007 and shares most of its mechanicals with the Volvo S40 sedan. But it has less standard equipment, making it Volvo's lowest priced vehicle.
The C30 was restyled last year with a new front fascia, new fenders, a new honeycomb grille and new trapezoidal headlights. So there is no design change for 2012.
Two new trim levels have been added to complement the base T5 and R-Design models - Premier Plus and Platinum. Premier Plus adds a power glass sunroof, power driver and passenger seats and LED daytime running lights.
Platinum adds more technology, including all the features of Premier Plus, and a 10-speaker, 650-watt Volvo Premium Sound System with Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound, a navigation system with real time traffic and Sirius/XM satellite radio.
With its compact size, smart design and peppy turbocharged five-cylinder engine, the Volvo C30 really is run to drive. With its relatively wide front and rear tracks and long wheelbase, it has exceptionally stable driving characteristics.
Under the hood, there's a 227 HP 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine. It's mated to either a standard six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed geartronic automatic with the auto-stick function.
The front-wheel drive C30 gets pretty good fuel economy at 21 miles per gallon around town and 30 MPG on the highway.
The C30 T5 comes standard with a healthy roster of standard equipment, including dynamic stability and traction control,
Volvo's side impact protection system and whiplash protection seating system, T-Tec upholstery, a leather gearshift knob with aluminum inlay, cruise control, a high performance 160-watt audio system, iPod/USB and auxiliary inputs, High Definition radio, and Bluetooth integrated interface.
Other enhancements for all c30s include a standard center armrest for rear seat passengers and standard security alarm. A new exterior color has been added -- Caspian blue metallic.
Pricing on the Volvo C30 T5 ranges from $24,950 to $31,850.
