Freelander(Land Rover) VCU (Viscous Coupling Unit) Test.
A seized VCU leads to a serious damage of the front IRD and/or rear differential.
This test, quickly checks if the VCU is operating or if it is seized.
How to do:
1) Jack up one side of the car.
2) Set the parking brake on.
3) Hang on the forward wheel: it must shift as shown.
There is just a little change in the rotation speed upon varying of the applied force.
The most important fact is just checkin a slow, smooth movement.
It is very quick to perform.
