How to Remove Spare Tire on a Chevy Silverado
Part of fishing is dealing with trucks, boats, and all the other gear that we use. As you can see here, Chevy decided they had to turn something so easy and basic into a nightmare for someone on the side of the road! I was lucky and got to work on the garage floor. I can't imagine trying to use that jack on the dirt. This was such a fiasco, that I ran out of time and never made it out to cut firewood in my stylin' green chainsaw pants.

Fifth Wheel Hitch Install Chevy Silverado - etrailer.com
http://www.etrailer.com/tv-install_fifth_wheel_2007_chevrolet_silverado.aspx Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer installation instructions and specs for complete information. Today we are going to be installing the Signature Series Fifth Wheel part number 30061. On a 2007 new body style Chevy Silverado pickup 2500. The first thing we need to do is lower the spare tire to gain access to the under body. Next we will need to remove the heat shield or else it will be in the way during our installation. After we remove the heat shield we want to go ahead and put the rear cross member into place. As you can clearly see that we have already put the cross member in. It will be easier if you loosen or remove the bed bolts. There are 4 middle ones that if you take them out or loosen they will allow you extra room when putting the cross member back into position. Then go ahead and install the front and rear channel. You can see we have both cross members into position now. The next step will be to mount the side brackets on the side of the frame. On this 2007 new body style Chevy pickup it has this optional brake controller unit built into the dash board. All of the electronics for that unit are mounted here on the driver side frame rail. They offer an after market bracket which is part number 58318. That is what we are going to have to use to relocate this so we can get the frame bracket up into place without interfering with this. We are back on the outside of the frame rail here. We are going to show you the 6 fasteners that are holding the electronic brake control unit to the side of the frame. You can see there are five 10 mm bolts and one 13 mm here as well. Which all of them need to be removed that will give us access to the brake controller on the frame. You want to make sure to support the unit on the other side before removing the bolts because it will fall. We have removed the brake controller components and attached them to the after market bracket part number 58318. It is going to mount to the frame with the same hardware that the frame brackets are going to use. We are going to install these spacers in between this bracket and the frame well also. So it spaces them away from each other. Now we have the mounting plate attached to the electrical brake controller unit on the inside of the frame. The next step is going to be to go ahead and put the frame brackets on. As you can see there is a cut out here that will go right around that section right around the axle. Now when this frame bracket is in position the holes align with the already existing holes. You can see we have the frame bracket in place like I said before the 5/8 x 2 inch bolt fits with most models. However with us having the brake control bracket on the other side we use the longer bolt that they provided with it. Actually bring it out this way a little more and attach the lock washer and nut here. This here is the other extra bolt holding on the brake control bracket which gets fastened with a 7/16 washer and nut. Over here to the forward most hole and again that is going to be mounted from the inside out. We are going to have to fish it through the frame with the use of this bolt leader here. Basically what we are going to do is fish this through the hole like so meet up with the bolt on the other side of the frame. Then wrap the threads with the bolt leader here and then pull it back through. Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer installation instructions and specs for complete information.

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2000 Chevy Silverado Part 1 - etrailer.com
http://www.etrailer.com/tv-brake-controller-install-chevy-pickup-part-1.aspx Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer installation instructions and specs for complete information. On this 2000 C/K Series Pickup we are going to install brake controller part number 39523 from Tekonsha. This is their Powertrac brake controller. This factory tow package also applies to Chevrolet and GMC trucks as far back as I believe the early 90s. I do not know down to 88 or not. It was new bought when this body style came out. We are going to begin our install work from the rear of the vehicle and work our way forward. The tow package on this body style is all stored right here behind the bumper and this channel underneath the bed of the pickup truck. All you have got to do is cut this down and pull it out. There is a harness that you pull out and it is designed to be spliced onto. For the towing package from a brake controller and a hot lead it is actually ran inside the frame and it does not come that far back. That is located on the frame on the driver side. 00:48 Normally this harness is pushed up against the frame here and you really can not see it. You will never know where to look. You will never find it. It is a lot easier to take down the spare tire but since this has already been pulled out for a previous install we will just leave it alone and you can see that the wires we need to use have already been exposed. Just move the hot lead going to the battery and this is the break lead and they both go up to the front of the vehicle. When we get to the front of the vehicle we will show you where they are terminated at. 01:15 The light green wire we are not going to use a ring terminal on because that actually goes in the center here so we do not need one. Okay to start our reverse lead and that goes into the center of the 7-pole. That is just for the reverse lights. I will show you the different wiring codes. What goes to what because on 7-poles it is not color for color hardly at all. We will start with the easy ones, the ones that do match up. We are going to run blue to blue. Blue will be your brake lead and that goes to blue on the brakes on your 7-pole. Next we will go to black and then convert it from orange to black that is your hot lead and so black on the 7-pole will always be for the hot lead. That is our constant 12 volts. We will do our ground wire and white on the 7-pole is ground also. We will do that one next. Now we will go to the ones that kind of change colors and functions. To me the easiest way to remember is to do the exact opposite of the color you are working with. Brown is running lights on the circuit for running lights on the trailer and on the truck however it is going to be green for the 7-pole function. Basically it is going to be green to brown and brown to green and yellow to red. Green lug will go to brown wire. Then we will go to our brown lug and that will be right turn for the 7-pole but it will be green on our truck and also it will be green typically on the utility trailer. Lastly we will do our left turn which will go to the red lug on our 7-pole. Just pull all of the wires back through. Then reinstall the screws to hold it in place. Double check to make sure the screws are in place. Then run some electric tape around it to seal up the rest. Now that we have got everything sealed up we will go ahead and just install it in our bracket. Just use the four screws to hold it in place. We will run our excess wire back up behind here and zip tie it and keep it secured.

Crash Test 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air VS. 2009 Chevrolet Malibu (Frontal Offset) IIHS 50th Anniversary
In the 50 years since US insurers organized the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, car crashworthiness has improved. Demonstrating this was a crash test conducted on Sept. 9 between a 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air and a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. In a real-world collision similar to this test, occupants of the new model would fare much better than in the vintage Chevy. "It was night and day, the difference in occupant protection," says Institute president Adrian Lund. What this test shows is that automakers don't build cars like they used to. They build them better." The crash test was conducted at an event to celebrate the contributions of auto insurers to highway safety progress over 50 years. Beginning with the Institute's 1959 founding, insurers have maintained the resolve, articulated in the 1950s, to "conduct, sponsor, and encourage programs designed to aid in the conservation and preservation of life and property from the hazards of highway accidents." A decade after the Institute was founded, insurers directed this organization to begin collecting data on crashes and the cost of repairing vehicles damaged in crashes. To lead this work and the Institute's expanded research program, insurers named a new president, William Haddon Jr., who already was a pioneer in the field of highway safety. In welcoming Dr. Haddon, Thomas Morrill of State Farm said "the ability to bring unbiased scientific data to the table is extremely valuable." This scientific approach, ushered in by Dr. Haddon, is a hallmark of Institute work. It's why the Institute launched the Highway Loss Data Institute in 1972 — to collect and analyze insurance loss results to provide consumers with model-by-model comparisons. Another Institute milestone was the 1992 opening of the Vehicle Research Center. Since then, the Institute has conducted much of the research that has contributed to safer vehicles on US roads. At the anniversary event, current Institute chairman Gregory Ostergren of American National Property and Casualty summed up a commitment to continue what fellow insurers began in 1959: "On this golden anniversary of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, we celebrate this organization's accomplishments toward safer drivers, vehicles, and roadways. We salute the vision of the Institute's founders and proudly continue their commitment to highway safety."
