Compare New VW Water Pump - Plastic vs Metal
TDI Videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=276rVBGQloQ&feature=&p=AFCD8742FB6BB2E1&index=0&playnext=1
My 2003 Volkswagen TDI suddenly died and cost me over $1,400 USD in parts alone to fix.
I tried to start it about 20 more times(bad move), but it was dead. The starter sounded like it was not turning the engine. I popped the hood and even though I had never looked in the timing belt housing before, I removed the timing belt cover and saw that the belt had no tension. It turns out it was the water pump that killed the timing belt. On his way out, it took three valves, 2 weeks of my time and all of my trust in VW parts.
OK! the car had 114,000 miles on it and I guess I should have changed the timing belt at 100K but who would expect the water pump to explode its bearing. The Timing belt that ripped in half was in good condition for having over 114k on it. It could have made it to 175k minus the water pump bearings. It's no wonder that Volkswagen changes the water pump with every timing belt concurrently. I thought that the water pump was changed with the timing belt just to ensure proper operation, not because Volkswagen knows that its 98 to 03 water pumps are defective. $1400 and hours of online researching have yielded the knowlage of TDI lovers from around the globe. The VW clubs have put me back in working order, no thanks to Volkswagen. VW's are fun to drive, but a pain to repair!
Hay! Volkswagen let me be the first to let you know that no one likes cars that can not be driven & plastic should not go into vital moving engine parts!!!

A4 ALH TDI METAL IMPELLER WATER PUMP $60 SHIPPED
Item #: 038 121 011 A
http://www.metalmanparts.com/product.sc?productId=69&categoryId=-1
All the VW blogs say that the MetalMan is Top rated for parts and service. I ordered a Head Rebuild + Timing Kit and it only took 3 days to get to my door from zip code 17801 to 60606. In my opinion his parts are better then what I can get from the dealer. "cost-wise & service-wise"

Here is the second offering from last weeks set of videos. The most important thing to note with this is that oil pressure is not created by the pump but rather the resistance to the outlet flow of that pump and part of that resistance is the clearances between the bearings and the other parts inside the engine. If nothing else I hope you are entertained, enjoy!

BMW Radiator, Cooling System, Water Pump Upgrade - E36 M3
http://www.AutoWerksofAmerica.com/ A BMW radiator isn't terribly hard to replace. While You're replacing the radiator you should consider upgrading other BMW cooling system parts like the water pump, the thermostat and the thermostat housing.
This DIY video shows that replacing a BMW radiator isn't hard. You can do it with a few simple tools and a little know-how. Many BMW owners like to perform preventative maintenance on the weak spots of the cooling system.
The main concerns are the plastic radiator, the plastic impeller in the water pump and the plastic thermostat housing. You can replace the water pump with an OEM unit, a unit with a steel impeller or special order a Stewart high performance water pump. Email for more info: sales@AutoWerksofAmerica.com

Water Pump Test Stand Demo.avi
Instead of installing each water pump on a car and driving it to test it,we quickly put together a test stand using a 928 radiator and an old 4.5 engine we had from an old junker.Mounted a 230 volt 3 HP motor to a bracket and put some idler pulleys on it and put studs on the pump mounting holes.silicone the gasket surface and mount the pump.Fill with water and let it run for over an hour. This will lets us test the seal and pump drive and seat in the bearings and seals and should warn us of any issues. The actual pulley sizes equal a 2.125 drive ratio causing the pump to spin at almost 7400 rpm. This will also come in handy as we develop different impeller designs and will allow us to be able to measure volume as well.

1998 camaro making noises maybe water pump?
my 1998 Camaro is making this noise when it starts up you hear the noise when the engine is cold but when the engine warms up you cant hear it no more it sounds like a bad bearing on a pulley or something but i think its the water pump but not sure temp gauge is working fine no over heating there was not very much play on the water pump pulley at all hard to explain the sound but it still runs and drives perfectley fine. it also kinda sounds like a rattling sound but its really hard to explain please watch and let me know what you think thanks!
