6V53TT Silver Detroit Diesel first start (part1)
Detroit Diesel Silver 6V53TT military being fired up for the very first
time ever. This unit was originally assembled in 1987 but was never used
and until this past year it sat the crate it was shipped in. This 53
series is one of the rare Silver units with cross head-pistons and a bypass
blower. It was designed as a single turbo, but has been upgraded to a twin turbo setup. A little sluggish to come awake for
the very first time, but now its a true screamin' demon!
JOHN DEERE 5012 DIESEL 2-STROKE V12
Saw this John Deere 5012 at a recent tractor pull, it's got the massive
Detroit 12v-71 two stroke diesel in it, which has a displacement of 71ci
per cylinder translating to 14.0L (852ci). The beast cranks out 450hp!
HEAR IT ROAR! RARE 8020 JOHN DEERE TRACTOR WITH 2-STROKE DIESEL.
Me and my brother were at the 2012 Alexander, NY Steam and Tractor show,
and I asked the proud owner of this extremely rare (1 of only 100 produced
in 1960-61) John Deere 8020 four-wheel drive tractor to crank it up and put
it in the sun where I could take some nice pictures for a book I'm putting
together on various tractors from the Tractor Iron Age (1960-1976 as I
define it). It has a GM/Detroit Diesel 6-71 2-stroke diesel. 426 cubic
inches, but since it's a 2-stroke, it basically puts out power like a
4-stroke engine double its size! (compare it to other engines from its own
era, and it's double the horsepower!). Wait until he
backs up the knoll, and then BEHOLD the spine-tingling 238 horsepower of a big, howling
2-stroke Detroit Diesel! Sorry for the shaky camera, maybe I got a little
EPIC Best near fail cold start Detroit Diesel smoke show MCI MC9 bus
*READ This is the first video with my new Samsung F40 Camcorder. My
batteries are almost 4 years old, they are tired and my fuel is
exceptionally old as well. I haven't added diesel in over 2 years now. I
finally had to put some jumper cables on it. I think an 8V71 starts better.
It was 26 F during the night during the vid it had warmed up a lil to
around 50F. Keep in mind all the fluids/hidden metal are 30-40 F. I have
another cold start vid from last year. This year, I had to grab my car to
jump the bus off after the first attempt failed. I assume engine rotation
speed by the starter affects start up. Even with additives, the diesel is
just old. I put 67 gallons in I believe two years ago which filled it to
the top, there's about 179 gallons, 95% usable I believe.
