Land Rover's History
Land Rover is a British car manufacturer with its headquarters in Gaydon,
Warwickshire, United Kingdom which specialises in four-wheel-drive
vehicles. It is owned by the Indian company Tata Motors, forming part of
their Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) group. It is the second oldest
four-wheel-drive car brand in the world (after Jeep).
The Land Rover name was originally used by the Rover Company for one
specific vehicle model, named simply the Land Rover, launched by Rover in
1948. Over the following years it developed into a marque encompassing a
range of four-wheel-drive models, including the Defender, Discovery,
Freelander, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Evoque. Land
Rovers are currently assembled in the company's Halewood and Solihull
plants, with research and development taking place at JLR's Gaydon and
Whitley engineering centres. Land Rover sold 194,000 vehicles worldwide in
Although the brand originates from the original 1947 model, Land Rover as a
company has only existed since 1978, prior to this it was a product line of
the Rover Company which was subsequently absorbed into the Rover-Triumph
division of the British Leyland Motor Corporation (BL) following Leyland
Motor Corporation's takeover of Rover in 1967. The ongoing commercial
success of the original Land Rover series models, and latterly the Range
Rover in the 1970s in the midst of BL's well documented business troubles
prompted the establishment of a separate Land Rover company but still under
the BL umbrella, remaining part of the subsequent Rover Group in 1988 under
the ownership of British Aerospace after the remains of British Leyland
were broken up and privatised. In 1994 Rover Group plc was acquired by BMW.
In 2000 Rover Group was broken-up by BMW and Land Rover was sold to Ford
Motor Company, becoming part of its Premier Automotive Group. In June 2008
Ford sold both Land Rover and Jaguar Cars to Tata Motors. - SUBSCRIBE!

Range Rover TDV8 - Skrytá identita - Roadlook TV
Má za sebou 37 let vývoje, přesto vypadá stále podobně, ne-li
téměř stejně. Zatímco ovšem karoserie zůstává přísně hranatá,
vnitřek se stále nafukuje, vylepšuje a technika mění. V minulém roce
Range Rover prošel faceliftem, v jehož rámci kromě lehce upraveného a
o malinko luxusnějšího interiéru dostal nový vznětový osmiválec s
objemem 3,6 litru, výkonem 200 kW a točivým momentem 640 Nm. No a s
tímto motorem jsme Range Rover otestovali, i když zatáček byl... no
povídejte se sami. Podrobný test Range Roveru TDV8 naleznete v magazínu.

Ever since the first Mercedes S-Class arrived in 1972 it has dominated the
Luxury car sector -- until the excellent Range Rover came along recently.
So can this new one regain its crown?
The Range Rover sets the benchmark for the Mercedes to beat. And starting
at around £70,000, this TDV6 Vogue is our pick of the range. By comparison
the long wheelbase A8 3.0-litre TDI SE seems a bit of a bargain. At less
than £64,000 it's the least expensive car here.
The Mercedes S350 L SE costs two thousand pounds more than the Audi, but
the S-Class is undoubtedly the most luxurious. The Range Rover comes and
impressive second though, with the A8 third.
The S-Class is offered with range of seating options. This one has the
£4000 Executive Seat package but can pay even more to make them recline up
to 43.5 degrees -- that's more than in any other car.
The Audi doesn't have such versatile seats but in the back it's no less
spacious than the Mercedes. It may be big on the outside but the Range
Rover has 80mm less rear legroom than the two Germans.
Bearing in mind that these cars are comfy cruisers, the Mercedes is the
best to drive, followed by the Range Rover and finally the Audi -- on
account of its sporty edge.
Both the Audi A8 and the Range Rover are gadget-laden. You can get posh
stereos, high tech screens, surround cameras and huge sunroofs in those
cars, but being the newest the Mercedes has an advantage. It gets the
latest displays, most advanced nigh vision system and even hot stone
So the S-Class leads the field for technology as well as being the most
luxurious plus the best to drive and to be driven in. But there's just one
last thing we need to consider.
The S-Class's boot capacity is a respectable 510-litres, which is the same
as the Audi A8. However, the Range Rover has a 909-litre capacity and, with
the seats folded, can swallow 2,030 litres.
That means the Range Rover is the most practical and overall it's a better
luxury car than the Audi A8. The thing is though, the Mercedes S-Class is
2011 Land Rover Range Rover Autobiography and Autobiography Black Edition
The official details about the 2011 Land Rover Range Rover confirm that the
SUV will get a new 4.4-liter V8 turbodiesel engine that produces up to 700 Nm (516
lb-ft) of torque, and 309 horsepower (230 kW, 313 PS).
Despite the 15% increase in power and 10% increase in torque, the engine's
CO2 emissions will be cut more-than-expected to 253g/km, representing a
14-percent decrease. This is partially due to the ZF 8HP70 eight-speed
automatic transmission. The Range Rover is capable of a 0-60mph sprint in
7.5 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 130 mph. When traveling at
50mph, the driver can hit the accelerator and get the SUV to 70mph in 4.0
seconds. Impressively, the SUV also gets 30.1 miles per gallon, the first
Range Rover to accomplish this.
"Its combination of reduced CO2 emissions and superior engine performance
continue to make it a clear industry benchmark," said Land Rover executive
Phil Popham. "And with the introduction of our all-new 'super diesel', we
see the Range Rover delivering over 30mpg for the first time."
Both models will get the same Brembo brakes, with 380mm front and 365mm
rear ventilated discs, along with aluminum six-piston callipers. Also
featured are paddle shifters, a new CommandShift knob instead of the old
lever, and a new Terrain Response Optimisation Switch. New exterior
colors, and new sets of wheels will be sold as part of a new Exterior
Design Pack, with a new bumper, grille, fog lights, vents, side sills, Exhaust tips, and rear bumper.
The company will also be selling a limited Autobiography Black 40th
Anniversary edition, held to just 700 units. The edition is painted in
Barolo Black, with 20-inch alloys, chrome details, wood trim, and Jet/Ivory
or Jet/Pimento interior choices.
"At the top of the Range, the new Autobiography Black 40th anniversary
limited edition offers customers the option of complete exclusivity with
unique colourway combinations as well as striking interior and exterior
design features," said Land Rover design chief Gerry McGovern.
