1979 Trans Am Test Speedo Shot
A 120+ mph run in our 1979 Trans Am with a 403 Olds Motor! Motor has been bored out .60 over with 9:1 compression pistons. Heads were ported, Edelbrock aluminum Manifold, Cam and carb kit, Roller Rockers and timing chain, Black Jack Headers and 2.5" cross over duel Exhaust. Had the Trans rebuilt with a B&M Shift kit which got rid of the 2 second lag between 1st and 2nd gear to give a nice chirp and a 3000 RPM stall torque converter. The rear limited slip was rebuilt with 3.90:1 gear ratio done at my local speed shop with matching speedo gears and got rid of the original 2.41's it had . I was told not to waste my money on this motor by all my gear head friends, but I got the last laugh when it produced 395hp 433 fp of torque to the rear wheels on the Dyno. I got no respect when I bought this car back in 1985, but by 1991 it had beat everyone of them at New England Dragway with high 11's in the 1/4 mile on 295 60's street tires. This engine was blueprinted by Pro Steet Unlimited in East Hartford Ct back in 1991. I have made a few more additions since then which should put it over 400hp (I hope), but I haven't brought it back to the Dyno to verify that. There are no power adders on this either. I'm not looking for comments on this. I simply wanted to make a point that not every gear head knows as much as they think they do and it's easy to criticize when you don't have the knowlege or the facts. I look forward to meeting every one of them at a red light someday.
1979 Trans Am fun with the rebuilt motor :)
