Racing In America Spotlight: 1967 Ford Mark IV
In 1967, American racing history was made, and thus far has never been
With the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend, Racing in America reflects on
the 45th anniversary of the Ford Mark IV claiming the second of four
consecutive victories for Ford Motor Company cars at Le Mans, arguably the
greatest American racing victory on foreign soil.
That day in 1967, the stunning red Mark IV, now in the procession of Henry
Ford Museum as part of its Racing in America collection, was driven to the
overall victory by A.J. Foyt and Dan Gurney. It remains today the only Le
Mans overall win by American drivers, in an American-built car, with an
American engine (Ford V8), prepared by an American team (Shelby American).
Ford GT, Cobra, Official Simeone Automotive Museum Video
Almost 200 spectators had a rare view of some of the greatest endurance
racing cars of the 1960s at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum Ford
Glory Days event in Philadelphia. The May 23rd Demonstration Day featured a
Ford GT40 MkII, Ford Mk IV and the Ford-powered Cobra Daytona Coupe. After
a brief historical preface by Dr. Simeone, he and Curator Kevin Kelly fired
the cars up and proceeded to drive them spiritedly around the 3-acre
parking lot in back of the museum.

Sebring 1967 12-Hour Race Ford MkIV GT Porsche Ferrari Chaparal 2D 2F LOLA T70 SHELBY M.G. VOLVO
Just discovered this in some old family film transfers. Shot by my Dad, my
brothers and I that day at the race. Bruce McLaren and Mario Andretti had a
12 lap lead when the checkers waved that night. The radical design of the
Chaparal was way ahead of its time. 58 cars started the race that featured
6 Ford GT's, led by the 7 Liter engine equipped factory prototype. The
yellow No. 1 MkIV was the car to beat and the class of the field and that
car went on to finish 4th at Le Mans later that year . 2.0 Liter Factory
Porsche 910 was one of their most distinctive cars and they prided
themselves by doing more with less.

Ford GT40 Lapping at Sebring International Raceway (Onboard)
This is a 1966 GT40 model Mk.I doing some relatively low-speed test laps at

strictly limited to specific track locations and required a 'point by' from
the driver being passed. This car is Superformance chassis number
