1972 Mercedes-Benz 220D - valve adjustment DIY and tips
This video isn't a complete DIY, but it is close. In this video, I perform a valve adjustment on my 1972 Mercedes-Benz 220D with OM615 engine.

I adjust the valves on my 1980 Mercedes diesel wagon. It runs real good now. The automatic transmission shifts much better too.
1972 Mercedes-Benz 220D start attempt
Video taken March 21, 2010, the day after purchasing the car. I bought it from who I suspect was the fourth owner (owner #1 had the car from 1972 through to the mid-90s). The car had not been driven, and had not moved in years. I was able to drive it out of the seller's driveway and on to the trailer for the tow, and then again off the trailer into my driveway.
This is a video of me trying to start the car the next day. I suspect bad glow plugs and a low battery. Still have not fixed it a year later. The car's in my garage and I've been concentrating on bodywork in the meantime. Trying to get the car roadable for it's 40th birthday in 2012.

RMI-25 Engine Coolant
RMI-25 is a low cost, effective safeguard against cooling system failure. It cleans while you drive; inhibits rust, cavitation erosion, electrolysis and pitting; lubricates water pump seals and thermostats; and improves cooling. RMI-25 should be in every water-cooled engine.

1983 Mercedes-Benz 240D - new project
I won't be working on this until I'm done with the Vanagon, but I wanted to show you a new project I just picked up - a 1983 Mercedes-Benz 240D.
In this video, I talk about and assess the car. Hopefully, I'll start work late April.

'82 Mercedes 300TDT First Start In 8 Years
Just bought two more of these wonderful cars. This one is a 1982 model, that sat behind a barn for 8-10 years. I'm going to use this one as a parts car, because the car is rusted beyond repair.
1972 Mercedes-Benz 220D - stripping and priming fender
1972 Mercedes-Benz 220D - stripping and priming fender. When I bought the car, it was wearing three layers of paint :
1) factory paint
2) first repaint in original maroon color (kind of sloppy)
3) second repaint in black
All three layers were peeling, leaving the metal open to surface rust. I had to take the fender off the car anyway to do some work in the wheel well, so I stripped the paint off and removed old Bondo, covering a repaired dent. I intend to do a better repair on this dent.

Knocking Mercedes diesel engine
The OM615 (possibly OM616) from my 1969 Merc 406D with a nasty rattling sound at idle. The sound goes away when the engine is revved, recurs back at idle, whether the engine is hot or cold. The sound seems to be coming from the back of the engine, possibly a loose tappet?
1972 Mercedes-Benz 220D - glow plug replacement/carbon reaming
I haven't started my 1972 Merecedes-Benz 220D in a year and a half. Now, I need to start it so I can get it out of the garage and get the Vanagon into storage.
In this video, I show how to pull the glow plugs and ream the carbon deposits from the engine.
