After starting the engine is reasonably steady and putting my hand on the air filter box doesn't have a big effect. After revving up a little, coming back to idle there is a booming sound. At this point, pressing on the air filter enclosure dampens the sound. Some days it starts out boomy, others it's only occasional.

It's actually not something standard, as I created a system by which the device is hidden in the dashboard (thus not attracting thieves), and comes out at the touch of a button. An elegant job, I guess :)
