Best VTEC Sound - K20
The sound of that downshift at 0:45 is reason enough to be NA. The car is an 8th Gen (06) Si with a stock K20 and open airbox.
In a world where true driving enthusiasts are a dying breed, peaky and berserk NA engines like this are becoming scarce in favor of more "torquey" engines with consequently diluted powerbands. Despite what you may have heard, the only TRUE advantage of this torque-focused engine type is that it lets you go reasonably fast even if you have no idea how to properly extract the top-end power of a manual performance car... aka don't know how to keep a motor wound up with proper footwork... aka don't know how to use a powerband.
Its easy to say that your engine has 5 liters (or whatever) and therefore doesn't NEED to be peaky. Sure, but you must be willing to make that statement knowing that a peaky 5-liter would make 500 horsepower NA, completely stock. Still in love with that low-end? Low-RPM NA engines sacrifice their full performance potential only to be easier and more rewarding for a novice to drive.
Oh, and cheaper to build.
It is therefore a no-brainer for car manufacturers as long as people continue to complain that their cars can't get out of corners at 2000 rpm. Somehow I never seem to have a problem with "low-end torque" when exiting corners at 8000 rpm instead :)
