This van rolled off of Fords production line on New years eve 1984.

A *friend* of mine had a 300bhp RS turbo a few years ago. It went rather well. Ignore the rev counter on the dash, accurate digital RPM can be seen on the Boost controller. Yes it did light the wheels at 70mph in third, in the dry and it does indeed go off the end of the speedo in fourth.
XR3 Ford Escort - Home Made Top Gear style
A home made Top Gear style movie about the Ford Escort XR3. Featuring my two cars LYP (stored) & YNO (the one now running). Designed to bring back memories for those that had one (or those that didn't), with shots all around the cars. I hope you like it.
At the middle to end of 1982 the 1600i and RS turbo were still to come out, so the XR3 was the top of the range Escort at that moment in time. The Escort was the UK's and the world's top selling car in 1982, and it had been voted European car of the year in 1981.
LYP I bought in 1986 when it was 4 years old, and I just turned 25. It hasn't run since 2008 and is in long-term storage. YNO I bought in 2008 and I have done that up too. YNO won a trophy at a car show in 2011 and is running - it is roadworthy. Quite a special car.

The Geferators on the engine aid compression and improve fuel economy' That is all I know after asking the first owner about them. I don't know how they work, or if Fords fitted them or not. Mind you it would be easy to remove them as they just screw into the Exhaust manifold. They seem to be some sort of diaphragm contraption. I've never seen them on any other car!
Update - someone who fitted these said they are aftermarket additions. They could easily be removed it needed. But they are probably the only example of them on any car still running I reckon.

my mk3 estate fitted with a homemade hho generator made from a stainless steel preserve jar, stainless fishing line as the element supported in a coil by two pieces of perspex formed in a cross.
the side of the jar is earthed and a 12 volt feed goes to the element.
jar is filled with 1 litre rainwater and a teaspoon baking soda producing 2.45 amps cold and 11.43 amps hot.
Engine is a low mileage 1.8 diesel recently fitted to replace the old diesel which had a cracked block.
Car has done 172,000 miles and wears 99% original paint.

Power comes from a Garrett turbocharged small block Chev 383ci LT1 V8 engine equiped with a dry ice Intercooler and MoTeC fuel injection. Drive is through a ProTrans Powerglide and Pro 9in rear end. The engine is mounted under the driver.
