5th Wheel Land Rover Defender - Off Road with 45ft Caravan
The end of an epic 3 week journey. The caravan is a 45ft 5th wheel trailer, made in the US, being pulled by a 1984 Land Rover Defender. The caravan was arrested and put in custody by the Police... it is a long story and may one day end up on youtube... It was damaged when we got it back... but this video is about the last 100ft of the journey. Positioning the caravan took nearly all day and there was at least 9 of us. The Land Rover is a very special one, built by Land Rover and registered to them for the early part of its life. The chassis is specially strengthened for the full size 5th wheel, it has vacuum brakes for the trailer and is having air brakes fitted. Soon to be featured in Land Rover World magazine. I thought it would be nice to show the Land Rover doing the kind of work it was built for, shame we needed a tractor to give us a nudge ;)

Extended King Pins? 5th Wheel Trailer & Short Bed Trucks
Extended king pin boxes are an option that some consider, but... they only really help while traveling in a straight line - when making short turns, the trailer is still as wide as it was, and there's no added clearance between the trailer and cab - the problem is still there, the accident's will still happen. This video demonstrate the reality - King Pin Extensions don't solve the short bed truck problem for 5th wheel trailer owners.

***To settle the annoying issue of people doubting the size and weight if this trailer...***
The trailer is a K321TBS by Gulfstream (Kingsport) It is 36 feet in length and the stick and tin version weighs 8000, this is fiberglass, completely empty this unit is 8700 LBS. Now add 4 adults in the truck (630 LBS) Add a full fresh water tank (420LBS) Now add all the gear, food, supplies (300 LBS). Now the weight the truck is pulling is 10,050 lbs, plus I didn't factor in the propane tanks, TV, or black tank. (probably another 160 lbs) (hitch, distribution bars, and sway bars would make up another 70 lbs) This would total up to 10, 280 LBS. Hopefully this puts an end to these comments that claim otherwise...

Today we are going to show you how to install a sidewinder with turret part number ST100-SW16K. You can see we started by laying out each individual piece of the sidewinder and turret combination. The first thing we are going to do is assemble the pieces together. We are going to start with the larger lube plate, we will take and install it onto the shank of the sidewinder. With the lube plate on we are going to next install the turret. Before we do that we want to take some light lithium grease and we are going to apply it to the top of the lube plate as well as around the pivot tube itself. That is going to make it easier to get the turret on. If you look at the turret the Reese sticker will indicate the front of the turret or the side that needs to face towards the tow vehicle. 00:48
