2011 Audi R8 Spyder V8

Potential new customers of the Audi R8 Spyder will have an additional engine choice to consider before placing an order. The German automaker will make the car available with a 4.2-liter FSI V8 engine that produces 430 hp (316 kW) and up to 430 Nm (317 ft-lb) of torque. Up until now, the car had only been offered with a 5.2-liter FSI V10 that kicks out 525 hp (386 kW) and up to 530 Nm (391 ft-lb) of torque, as seen in the pictures here. Photos of the car with the new engine have not yet been released. With the new engine, and the R-tronic sequential manual transmission, the car sprints to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, before hitting its 299 km/h (186 mph) top speed. Quattro all-wheel drive is also included. Fuel consumption with the R-tronic is a 13.9 liters per 100 km, or 17 mpg. With the six-speed manual, that figure jumps to 14.9 liters, or 15.79 mpg. Energy recovered during braking was installed to help improve fuel economy on the R8. The engine features a crankcase made from an aluminum and silicon alloy, and uses forged aluminum pistons with steel connecting rods. It has a separate oil tank and a dry sump lubrication system. Weight for the engine is listed at 216 kg (476 lbs.). Normal options are still available on the car, including leather upholstery, carbon fiber interior fittings, piano black trim, Alcantara headliner, and more. The Audi R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI quattro will hit the German market for €121,000, beginning in the third quarter of 2010. http://www.worldcarfans.com/110070127133/audi-r8-spyder-now-available-with-42-fsi-v8-engine

The US pricing for the R8 V10 will start at $146,000. R tronic models will carry a hefty $9,100 premium, as their base price is $155,100. To help differentiate the model, Audi equips the supercar with full-LED headlights, 19-inch Y-design forged aluminum alloy wheels, modified sideblades with larger air intakes, and a revised grille with additional chrome accents. Other unique updates include new rocker panels, dual oval Exhaust tips, a larger rear diffuser, and plenty of V10 badging. Inside, the car comes nicely equipped with a navigation system, a 465-watt Bang & Olufsen sound system, SIRIUS satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and heated sport seats. Power comes from a 5.2-liter FSI V10 engine which produces 525 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. This enables the R8 V10 to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 196 mph. The first two cars have already been delivered, they were auctioned off for a combined total of $850,000, and official shipments will begin this week. http://www.worldcarfans.com/109072420651/audi-r8-v10-pricing-starts-at-146000--us

2011 Audi R18 LMP1
Audi extends motorsport commitment New Audi R18 for the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours Dual project in the DTM Endurance races with the Audi R8 LMS Audi aims to continue its string of victories at the Le Mans 24 Hours with a completely new LMP1 sports car development. Since its debut in 1999, the brand with the Four Rings has won the world's most important endurance race as many as nine times with the R8, R10 TDI and R15 TDI models. In doing so, Audi has equaled this feat in the race's roll of honor with Ferrari. With the new R18, which was presented at the Audi Sportpark in Ingolstadt on the evening of Friday, December 10, 2010, Audi is aiming for its tenth Le Mans success in 2011. For the first time since 1999, Audi will contest Le Mans with a closed coupe again. "In the future, aerodynamic efficiency will be even more important at Le Mans than it was in the past," says Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich. "A closed car has clear advantages in this respect. Our computer simulations have been confirmed in the wind tunnel and during initial track tests." Significantly smaller engines than those used before will be prescribed at Le Mans in 2011 as the rule makers aim to achieve a substantial reduction of engine power. By opting for a 3.7-liter V6 TDI unit, Audi retains the diesel concept that saw its first victorious fielding in 2006. "From our point of view, the TDI continues to be the most efficient technology," says Ulrich Baretzky, Head of Engine Development at Audi Sport. "There are good reasons why the share of TDI units among Audi's production models is as high as it is." Through the innovative V6 TDI engine for the Le Mans 24 Hours, motorsport is yet again performing pioneering work for the production arm at Audi where there is a growing trend towards smaller, more economical but yet powerful engines. Another new development is the six-speed transmission in the R18 which has been specifically modified for use with the smaller engine.

2011 Audi R8 V10 Spyder (HQ)
2011 Audi R8 V10 Spyder The Audi R8[4] (Typ 42)[6] is a mid-engine, 2-seater sports car,[4][7] which uses Audi's trademark quattro permanent all-wheel drive system.[4][8] It was introduced by the German automaker Audi AG in 2006. The car was exclusively designed, developed, and manufactured by Audi AG's high performance private subsidiary company, quattro GmbH, and is based on the Lamborghini Gallardo platform.[9] The fundamental construction of the R8 is based on the Audi Space Frame,[4] and uses an aluminium monocoque which is built around space frame principles. The car is built by quattro GmbH in a newly renovated factory at Audi's 'aluminium site' at Neckarsulm in Germany.[4] In 2005, Audi announced that the name of the successful Audi R8 race car would be used for a new road car in 2007, the Audi R8, based on the Audi Le Mans quattro concept car, appearing at the 2003 International Geneva Motor Show, and 2003 Frankfurt International Motor Show. The R8 road car was officially launched at the Paris Auto Show on 30 September 2006. There was some confusion with the name, which the car shares with the 24 Hours of Le Mans winning R8 Le Mans Prototype (LMP). 6-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Jacky Ickx described the R8 as "the best handling road car today".[10] The Audi R8 is used as a safety car in Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters and British Superbike Championship racing series. The R8 is due to be replaced with a brand new model in calendar year 2014.[11] The highest output version of Audi's new 4.0 liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine is expected to power the new car. This engine is scheduled to be previewed as a detuned version in the 2012 Audi S8—with 518 hp (386 kW) on tap.[citation needed] In the R8 application it is expected to produce about 600 hp.[citation needed] Combined with an approximate 200 lb (91 kg) weight loss, the new R8 is expected to compete well with the new Porsche 997 twin turbo model and will likely perform significantly better than the current R8 GT with a 0--60 mph time in 3.2 seconds and a quarter mile in less than 11 seconds. A dual clutch automated gearbox will be offered for the first time. *Information Courtesy of WikiPedia.
