The Electric car, We should be all driving an electric car. They have been in use for over 30 years. Now the oil companies don't wont us to have them. So they are doing everything they can to stop the manufacturing of the electric car!
My Electric Porsche 914
UPDATE: Wow. I made this for college applications 3 years ago and lost the password to the account. I had no idea it had become this popular. I was gonna delete it but perhaps I'll make a second one first.
ALSO IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED: Since I went off to college, the car has been collecting dust. I'm the only one who ever drove it. So if someone is looking for a project, get in touch. My father and I haven't had the heart to get rid of something we put so much time into but it really could use someone who is more attentive to it.
I'm Harrison and this is a video showing a test ride in my electric 914. I, influenced by Tesla Motors, converted this with my father, a physicist. The kit we bought was NOT very well designed. We made many improvements.
200 volt Li-ion battery pack, 48 cells - Thundersky Batteries
DMOC 445 Motor Controller - Azure Dynamics
3-Phase A.C. Motor - Azure Dynamics
Close to original curb weight
Sorry to say that we haven't quite tested its full capabilities.
So far I've driven it at 55mph, but it could go way above that -- 70 or 80 perhaps.
The range is hardest to test because you have to run the battery all the way out which makes it hard to get back. 60 miles before recharge is what we've done which is a week of driving.
I'll update when we do more range/speed tests.
If we could do it again we would make better purchasing decisions and actually design it before the purchase.

New Electric Cars Are Better
Just showing off some of the cool new electric cars and putting to rest some of the myths out there. When people think of electric cars, typically they think of older ugly slower models, lead-acid batterys, and BS propaganda they've read slamming the "electric cars"(as though they all carried the exact same attributes)
The battery technology has changed(and will change even more when nanowire battery becomes common), the speeds have changed, the climate versatility has changed, the prices are changing, the car companies are changing... everything is changing for the better. I expect to see a lot more support for EV's during and after 2010.

Only about 15% of the energy from the fuel you put in your tank gets used to move your car down the road or run useful accessories, such as air conditioning. The rest of the energy is lost to engine and driveline inefficiencies and idling. Therefore, the potential to improve fuel efficiency with advanced technologies is enormous. With an Electric Car it costs just $2.00 per 100kms with MUCH more performance than with petrol at $20.00 per 100kms.
