Kablamo! in my BMW M3 at Sebring
I was leading an SCCA race in my BMW M3 in Aug 2003 at Sebring International Raceway when Kablamo! the engine tore itself apart.
I was on pole for the race, but did a poor start which let the Ford Mustang in the 2nd position take the lead going into turn one. I got him back at the tower turn and was sure that I would run off into the distance, but my engine had other plans.
After Buddy at Florida Performance Machine pulled the engine, he determined that an Exhaust valve had broken which resulted in a massive failure in the cyclinder. The piston rod tore lose from the head and acted like a hacksaw tearing the block apart.
I still managed to win my class championship for 2003 and 2004!
