Torsen Differential - Audi Emotion Club AUDIclopedia
1986: The Torsen differential in the Audi quattro - With the debut of the Audi 80 quattro in fall 1986, Audi introduced a new center differential a component that was still strictly mechanical, but highly efficient. The name Torsen was a contraction of the English words torque and sensing. The Torsen differential had already proved itself in the world of technology as a high-tech rear axle differential; Audi developed it further for use as a center differential.

Jeep Drivetrain Winner: Installing Detroit Truetrac Differentials and Locker
http://www.4wd.com/parts/detroit-locker/detroit-locker-differential.aspx - You voted, and the winning Jeep drivetrain components are Detroit Truetrac torque biasing differentials and rear Detroit soft locker. This differential will split the torque so that it never locks up on you. Plus, the Detroit lockers can handle the most severe off-road conditions. Check it out as we show you how to install these Jeep differentials and lockers.

Torsen Limited Slip Differential - Explained
How do Torsen limited slip differentials work? The Torsen differential is a very unique type of LSD, which was invented by Vernon Gleasman in the 1950's. It allows for a ratio of torque split between the drive wheels, and it allows for differing speeds of the drive shafts, much like a typical LSD. It does so in a highly unique fashion.

Torsen LSD - Torque Transfer - Explained
How do Torsen limited slip differentials transfer torque? The Torsen differential is a very unique type of LSD, which was invented by Vernon Gleasman in the 1950's. It allows for a ratio of torque split between the drive wheels, and it allows for differing speeds of the drive shafts, much like a typical LSD. The manner in which it transfers torque is unique, however it applies the same principles as any other LSD.

Viscous Coupling - Audi Emotion Club AUDIclopedia
2007: The viscous coupling in the Audi R8 - The Audi R8 high-performance sports car occupies a special position in the Audi model range and this extends to its packaging and its drive system. The mid-mounted engine is arranged longitudinally at the rear of the car in front of the rear axle, with the gearbox right behind it. It also includes an auxiliary drive for a prop shaft running past the engine on the side and up to the front axle.

Audi dual clutch transmission technology
The S tronic dual-clutch transmission is a successful technology. It combines the convenience of an automatic with the efficiency of a manual transmission, while adding its own dynamic touch. Throughout much of the model line-up -- from the A1 to the A7 Sportback -- the S tronic is available in four different versions, with six or seven gears.
Crown Gear Differential - Audi Emotion Club AUDIclopedia
2010: The crown gear differential in the Audi RS 5 -
Exactly 30 years after the debut of the first quattro, Audi presents a new, innovative evolutionary stage of its permanent all-wheel drive system for longitudinal engines the quattro drive with crown gear differential and torque vectoring. The technology will debut in the new Audi RS 5 high-performance coupé, with which Audi is further extending its competitive advantage.

Sport Differential - Audi Emotion Club AUDIclopedia
2008: The sport differential in the Audi S4 - The self-locking center differential in the classic quattro power-train does an excellent job of distributing the power between the axles. To make driving even more dynamic, it needs an additional component that actively splits the torque between the wheels of the rear axle. Audi presented this solution in the new S4 in late 2008 the sport differential.

Limited Slip Differential - Explained
How do limited slip differentials work? What is an LSD? Clutch type limited slip differentials use the engagement of a clutch to lock up a differential, allowing for torque to transfer to the wheel with more grip, until the force between the clutch packs is overcome. When the differential is not under load, it allows for both wheel to rotate at separate speeds.

Self-locking Center Differential - Audi Emotion Club AUDIclopedia
2005: The self-locking center differential in the Audi RS 4 - In 2005, Audi ignited the next stage in the evolution of its
classic quattro drive system in the second-generation RS 4. The new self-locking center differential, which is used in most models today, remained true to the principle of mechanical function, yet represented significant progress versus the Torsen differential.
