Renault has provided a preview glimpse of its new concept car, DeZir, ahead of this year's Paris Motor Show. DeZir powered by an electric motor illustrate Renault's commitment to more emotional styling. The DeZir project is the first to have been led by Laurens van den Acker and marks the start of a sequence of concept cars that will provide an insight into Renault Design's new vision for the future. It also lays the foundations for the styling cues of Renault's forthcoming vehicles. The public will get its first opportunity to see DeZir at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

The Rollin' Thunder Jet Car is a custom moulded Honda Civic complete with ground effects. It features a Westinghouse-built J34 jet engine from an old US Navy F2 McDonnell Douglas fighter jet, capable of burning 30 litres of fuel in six seconds, generating 6,000 horsepower and 12,000 lbs of thrust at speeds of 250 miles per hour!

And sometimes, you can almost see it. Going close to that speed through air can cause some unusual visual effects. This compiled footage includes F-14s, standard and Blue Angels F-18s, plus the SR-71 and an Atlas Rocket launch. AVweb contacted sources at NASA to research the phenomena.

Thrust SSC Supersonic Car - Historic Archive Footage of the Final Run 66. View from the Live Cockpit Camera with Supersonic Driver - Wing Commander Andy Green, OBE, on Black Rock Desert - Nevada, USA. Time - 10:05:00 - Wednesday 15th October 1997 (Local Time). This was the second of 2 supersonic runs (Runs 65 and 66) that together set the World Land Speed Record of 763mph or 1228km/h that still holds today more than 12 years later, and was indeed the FIRST record at supersonic speed!
The Thrust SSC Car is driven by twin Rolls-Royce Spey Engines with 11,000hp and 50,000lbs thrust! They provide the power to achieve 0 to 600mph in just 16 seconds. Run 66 achieved a peak speed of 771mph - Mach 1.02 - and an average speed of 766.609mph over the measured mile! The distance covered during this final run was 14 miles.
In this now historic archive video you'll see the large round "Mach" Speed Meter on the left side of the various dials - as the car pushes through the 700mph barrier you'll see the Mach Speed Hand rapidly move across the dial to an indicated peak supersonic Mach Speed of an estimated Mach 1.02 - with sonic booms being experienced across the desert flats. The main speedometer is just to the right of the Mach Gauge, and during the run you'll see the needle move from the top position around the gauge to the max 771 mph! Wow!

Bloodhound SSC 1000 mph rocket car, land speed record attempt

Johnny Bohmer Owner of Performance Power Racing and Driver of the World Famous BADD GT, along with Matt Lundy, Lead Design Tech, piloted the 1700+ horse power Ford GT down NASA's Shuttle Landing Facility Runway this week setting a new Guinness World Record at 283.232 mph in the Standing Mile. The Standing Mile is an event in which a vehicle, from a dead stop, accelerates completely through the one mile mark.
