****UPDATE 2/16/2010*****
Paid $254 to perform valve adjustment as per Dealer recommendation to eliminate the knock, however this did not fix the engine knock.
Dealer acknowledged the engine knock however, after using a stethoscope, Dealer did not find any bottom end noise.
As such, dealer called Acura Tech Line asking for further input and they were directed to test another 04-06 TL. Another TL they tested did have similar engine knock. Consequently, Acura and the Dealer concluded this is just normal valve train noise.
Further updates pending Acura Client Services response.
**END UPDATE 2/16/2010***
Engine knock very noticeable after cold start up or next morning first start up. Ambient temp of 75F.
using premium gas with minimum octane rating of 93 from Costco (BP) and amsoil Eao13 oil filter with semi-synthetic oil. About 1500 miles on the oil and filter.
Video recorded with microphone under the front driver side wheel well, the knock is noticeable on either side of the vehicle. It is however, not as noticeable from the top of the vehicle with hood open; perhaps the knock is a little muzzled from all the valve train noise.
Sound of the knock is distinct at 1:30 - 3:00 during a period where the engine is revved from idle of ~900 RPMs (engine is still not fully warmed up) to ~2000 RPMs.
Sound of the knock is also distinct at 4:00 - 4:45 with engine revved at ~1300 RPMs.
Anyone have any clue on what this knock could be?
Diagnosing the Engine Knock
Trying to figure out what the engine noise is. Looks like lifters that won't drain down plus maybe some plugged up oil squirters.
Acura TL Weird Noise

Cold Engine Start (/w Knock)
Well this is what cold engine knock sounds like (on an older vehicle). In this case, a 1995 Grand Prix saloon. Once it warms up its drive like butter with no noise.

2005 Acura TL Interior & Exterior
This video shows what the inside and outside of a 2005 Acura TL looks like. The best-selling car at Honda's upscale Acura division gets no changes of note for 2005. The TL is based on the Honda Accord platform, but has different styling and powertrains and more upscale features. The only engine is a 270-hp V6 with a choice of a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift gate or a 6-speed manual. TLs with manual transmission include a firmer suspension, Brembo-brand front brakes, and limited-slip differential. They're also available with performance tires instead of all-season treads. Every TL comes with 17-inch wheels, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, antiskid system, plus front side airbags and head-protecting curtain side airbags. Also standard are leather upholstery with heated front seats, aluminum interior trim, sunroof, satellite radio, and an in-dash CD changer that plays DVD-Audio discs. The TL also comes with Acura's HandsFreeLink, which employs the audio system as a hands-free, wireless link to cell phones. A navigation system with voice command is optional.

Explains the Knock Sensor Operation and Testing. The Knock sensor is a actual microphone screwed into the engine block. It is tuned to listen to the exact frequency of an engine knock, which is a high frequency ping. A failing knock sensor will cause all sorts of problems to engine operation, such as skewed timing controls, loss of performance and power and ever the system going to linp-in mode. Learn how it works and how to test this incredible component. (note: We allow all schools and training institutions to use our software free of charge, so long as it is not sold to others. 2002 Acura TL 3.2L 0-60 Attempt (Slipping Transmission) - 102K
2002 Acura TL
This TL comes with a VTEC 3.2L SOHC V6 which pumps 225 HP thru 5 speed auto.
The condition of this car was in overall excellent shape but unfortunately, the Transmission was screwed. Shifts were weak & delayed. Reverse gear remained neutral if not given some throttle input, you'll notice that clunk which is when the tranny finally engaged.
