1973 Mach 1 Mustang Restoration - improved
A short video journey along the 18 months it took us to restore a bent and rusting red wreck into a race car for the World's ultimate tarmac rally - Targa Tasmania. This video is missing a lot, as you can imagine with a complete restoration, but it does contain footage of the day we bought the car right up to the recently completed Targa Wrest Point 2010 tarmac rally - without a crash.
We need to recognise John Biggelaar (near Launceston) our amazing restorer, and the boys at Gorringes (in North Hobart), who took on a monumental mechanical task and succeeded. And of course my wife and kids who have shown understanding, tolerance and passion.

My 1966 Ford Mustang coupe getting ready for fresh bodywork and paint!
My 1966 Mustang awakens after being in the garage for about 4 years or so. I bought this car in 1998, from a friend who restored it and raced it in the early to mid 80's. His racing days were over as well as his automotive tasted changed to the classy 50's cars. After showing this car for about 8 years (and a few 1/4 mile passes as well), I decided it was time for a new look, as well as a fresh engine. So in late 2005 the restoration began, budget minded because a house purchase was on the horizon! Starting with the engine a 347 stroker, built with the "street fighter" stroker kit from Mustangs Unlimited, then onto the body work. I did a Shelby lower front valance (retaining the front bumper) for more airflow, and a 3" rise fiberglass cowl hood, I plug welded and filled the radio antenna on the front fender as well. Work stopped on the car due to the house purchase, and moving in 2007 so it sat under a cover until the garage was ready. Diving into all the home projects made time pass quickly, but now it is time to finish it and start enjoying it again!!! Freshen up the bodywork, and get some paint on her!!! Watch in HD if you can, enjoy, rate, and comment. Please add me to your friends list and subscribe. Thanks, Enginenut :-)
