MEV Race Exocets (MX150R) take part in the Nippon Challenge at Mallory Park and finish 2nd and 3rd in the "up to 550 bhp class". Brilliant techniques shown once again by Jonathon Blake, Alec Livesley and Michael Pearson in the second race especially as the heavens opened just as they lined up on the grid!

MEV Exocet MX150R Race Cars go up against MX5 Mk3's at Croft www.ma5daracing.com
Following on from an amazing 2nd and 3rd for Jonathon Blake and Alec Livesley last week at Brands Hatch (Nippon event) they travelled north to Croft this weekend. The race is for MX5 MK3 cars but the Exocets were allowed to enter on special grounds. It was clear from the qualifying times that those who doubted the performance figures we expected must eat some humble pie. The MK3 cars are stripped out and tuned to 180 BHP. The Exocets (MX150R's) are around 140 after a head skim. However the MEV's went so well that the race organisers decided that they should start from the back of the grid and be held for 10 seconds after the green light. What a long 10 seconds that seemed to me, poised with my little video camera. We later checked the on board camera on one car to see an 18 second gap before they were given the green flag. We then witnessed what must have been totally unexpected to everyone. Within 2 laps they had caught the back markers and by the end of the race they finished in an amazing 5th and 6th.
More good news followed too as whilst the noises we heard in the pits were to the effect that these kit cars were no match for the MK3 cars we dicovered after the race that Jonathon recorded the fastest lap time of the race. This suggests that he would have been 1st if he was not delayed somewhat at the start. Alec also achieved very quick lap times, the 2 were separated by only 3 hundreths of a second. Again going to show how close these cars and drivers are matched. The same thing happened on Sundays race too. This time a delay of around 10 seconds seemed to be correctish. Again Jonathon took the fastest lap time with Alec nono seconds behind. Michael Pearson also had a great race and managed to catch and take a few back markers depsite his car being the prototype and somewhat heavier and slightly more tired than the other 2.
Fantastic to watch and a great demonstration of what we have a chieved in a very short time.
Thinking about joining in the fun? Contact www.ma5daracing.com or come to www.mevltd.co.uk for more details of the cars.
Next weekend the 3 cars will be in action again. These hard working/hard driving trio will be at Mallory. I seriously recommend a visit. This time they will be competing against the best Jap cars on the UK circuits. We are not expecting a win due to the 500 bhp some cars in the race will be running but we have already seen them show a clean set of heals to 7 type cars on many occasions as the Exocet corner exit speed are far superior. It will be great to ee them next week as some of the cars they will fly past have far more power but drive the front wheels. How odd is that?

MEV Exocet MX150R Racing at Croft with in-car footage
Watch drivers Jonathan Blake and Alex Liversley battle it out with Mk3 MX5s after starting from the back of the grid and held for 10 seconds after the green light. The Mk3 cars do not seem to stand a chance against the Exocet MX150R as Jonathan and Blake climbed from the back of the pack to finish in 5th and 6th place.
More exciting MX150R Exocet racing action is coming in 2012 from Ma5da Racing.

Exocet MX150R Racing in 2012 Ma5da Racing Series
Jonathan Blake, Director of Ma5da Racing's MX-5 Championship discusses the newest addition to the Ma5da Racing family for the 2012 series: the Exocet MX150R race car.
In simple terms we've developed this in front of everybody rather than doing it behind closed doors. You've seen the prototypes at Donnington and Castle Comb and now can see the finished product. In essence what you've got is the running gear from a 1.8L Miata/MX5 with a head skim which gives 140 brake horsepower. But the main thing is the chassis. It is a lot stiffer because it is a spaceframe and you've got an integral roll cage which is bolt in. All simple things to do, but gives you a power to weight ratio of a seriously quick car. In the MX150R race series the minimum weight with driver will be 820kg.
Unfortunately, at some point, the MX5s will become extinct. That is years away, but the car is now 22 years old. The MEV Exocet MX150R gives a life after death for the MX5. What it means is that in the future, you can take the body work off standard cars when the bodies start to degrade and have a new series based on the exoskeletal chassis. We are looking at protecting our investment in the Mazdas and do something a little bit different.
While the Ma5da Racing series drivers certainly do enjoy the performance of the Exocet MX150R, we do not expect a large number of Mk1 and Mk3 drivers to move over to this class. This is aimed at a new market. There are kit car drivers out there with racing licenses and there are other championships that use kit cars, but there isn't anywhere that they do a single make kit car MX5 prototype turn-to-race car championship and that is exactly what we are doing for 2012.

MEV Exocet & Rocket Kit Cars Race at Donington in the 750 Motor Club Sport Specials
Delighted to see three MEV race cars on the same grid today.
Rob drove the Rogue Motorsport Rocket very well but got held up in traffic by a Cobra that sprayed the track with oil. The oil caused Adam to take a short diversion in his Exocet lightweight and Jonathon to slip and slide in his MX150R. The class win for Jonathon with Rob second and Adam third was a very special moment for TEAM MEV. Adam recorded fastest lap too despite having not driven for 3 years! All 3 cars performed without issue and for me it was a perfect opportunity to witness a very interesting comparison bearing in mind the differing balance/weights/power of the 3 cars.
The fact that they happened to qualify on to the grid next to each other was fantastic.
