drive it! presents the fastest and most luxurious cars of last century: the Audi R 15 plus as it prepares to race in Le Mans and the Maybach SW 38.
present it!: The VW Amarok - Volkswagen presents its first pick-up model. The four-door Amarok is available in both Trendline and Highline versions as well the basic model. Buyers can choose among two fuel efficient gasoline engines and three Diesel engines: offering 122 HP or a Biturbo 163 HP. Two All-Wheel-Drive versions are available in addition to the rear wheel drive only basic model. And depending on customer needs, permanent or driver-activated AWD, can be chosen. The Amarok is being launched in South America and is due to arrive in Europe by late summer.
compare it!: Suzuki Swift Sport vs. Renault Twingo RS - These two urban roadsters show that small doesnt have to always mean weak. This time we compare Renaults chic Twingo RS against the Swift Sport from Suzuki. Both have 1.6- liter gasoline engine. The Twingo RS delivers 133 horsepower; the Swift Sport provides only 125 HP but nevertheless can accelerate to 100 km/h in just 8.9 seconds and has a maximum speed of 200 km/h. The Twingo uses its horsepower advantage to win the sprint in 8.7 seconds and has a top speed of 201 km/h. But is that enough to win it all?
admire it! The Audi R15 Plus - Built purely for power and efficiency. Its a question of hundreds if not thousandths of a second. The objective is to push the Audi R15 plus to the limit its always a challenge to triumph in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, after all. This special model is designed, constructed and simulated on the basis of the Audi R15 TDI. The designers were asked to improve further on a fully-fledged sportscar ... right down to the last detail. drive it! takes a look behind the scenes as the engineers work on the Audi Le Mans racer.
Vintage: Maybach SW 38 - Maybach has always stood for luxury and elegance in automobile construction. That was no different in 1936 when the Maybach SW 38 was introduced. To continue to provide the same power despite diminishing fuel quality, engineers increased engine size in the successor to the SW 35 from 3.5 liters to a 3.8-liter engine in SW 38. Later it grew to 4.2 liters. Maybach was founded in 1909 and originally built engines for Zeppelins. It built cars for about 20 years until 1941 - producing some 2200 vehicles.

This time, drive it! has something for everyone, whether it's a racing car
that goes like a rocket or a cozy three-wheeled caravan. With more than 500
horsepower and a
maximum speed of over 300 kilometers an hour, the Wiesmann GT burns up the
track. A test driver says it's the most challenging car he's ever
driven. And motorcycling fans take part in a celebrating the birthday of the
legendary BMW enduro-bike, the GS. And finally, we took it easy while
checking out some unusual caravans.
admire it! The Wiesmann GT MF - 5Like its trademark gecko, the Wiesmann GT
MF5 is quick. Hop in for a ride and let its 507 horsepower engine with a top
speed of 310 kilometers give you that racetrack feeling. The Wiesmann
brothers have been building their dream cars by hand since 1988.At their
workshops near Münster, they spend 350 hours making each car, which
incorporates BMW's M5 and M6 technologies. A choice of 400 different types
of upholstering leathers, together with a wide range of thread, carpet and
interior paints, guarantees a tailor-made interior. The no-frills MF5 model
can be had for €180,000, although extras can cost much more. drive it!
tested the Wiesemann where it's meant to run - on the racetrack.
present it! Volvo in 2011 - In the coming year, environmental protection
will be writ large at Volvo. It's the first time a front-wheel drive model
of its XC 90 SUV will be available in Europe alongside the all-wheel drive
models that have been on sale up to now. That's because not everyone takes
their SUV off-road.With a small diesel under the hood, fuel economy is a
real feature on the front wheel drive XC 90. And it's cheaper as well, with
a selling price some €5,000 lower than the all-wheel drive model. Also
new in Volvo's palette is a two-liter gasoline engine that's available for
Volvo's small SUV, the XC 60, and in its S80 sedan.
examine it!: The BMW GS Endurobike turns 30 - The BMW GS enduro bike has
been a symbol of freedom and adventure for three decades. The secret of the
motorcycle's popularity is that it perfectly blends sturdiness and off-road
maneuverability with long-haul comfort. One of the GS' biggest fans is
rally driver Jutta Kleinschmidt. She started her career by winning the
women's race at the Dakar Rally on a GS. A visit to this year's GS meet at
Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a good way to find out just how well-loved the
classic motorbike is.
test it! The Lexus IS 250 The Lexus IS 250 is supposed to give the Audi A4,
the BMW 3-series and the Mercedes C-class a run for their money on the
European market. Lexus is using the IS 250 to succeed on the old continent,
particularly in Germany. It offers a choice between diesel and gasoline

compare it! Audi A6 Allroad - Volvo XC 70 - The days are gone where a
station wagon was just a family car. Today's station wagons are for all
sorts of situations. A lot of technology has gone into the new models,
which are also designed for off road driving. We compare the Audi A6 allroad
quattro and the Volvo XC70. The XC70 comes with a turbo charged engine. It is a shame though that
the top speed is limited to 205 kilometers an hour. The three liter Audi
with its 240 horsepower manages 233
kilometers an hour. The Volvo wins on price. It is almost ten thousand
Euros cheaper as the Audi.
test it! The Alfa Romeo Spider - Some cars are built for thrills. The Alfa
Romeo Spider is without doubt in this category. But while performance is a
priority, the classic car has undergone some downsizing. This translates
into small engines that despite their lower displacement provide the same
level of power.drive it! tests out the entry-level engine version, which
beats its predecessor on all fronts thanks to supercharging and modern
direct fuel injection. It's a full second faster over the dash to 100 km/h (7.8
seconds). And instead of 224 km/h the current model has a top speed of 235.
drive it! checks out the thrill factor.
examine it! Aquaplaning - Cloudbursts and torrential rain lead to a cushion
of water forming under car tires, which lose direct contact to the road. As
the engine power fails to take effect, the vehicle goes out of control. The
phenomenon is known to regular car drivers and motorsports professional
alike. Aquaplaning is especially dangerous when high speeds are involved.
Tire developers are on a permanent mission to minimize the hazards of
aquaplaning situations. Successful advances in racetrack tire technology
ultimately benefit regular car drivers as well.
vintage! Mercedes 170 flatbed truck, year: 1948 - Under the toughest of
circumstances, Daimler Benz took up production again after the war in 1946.
Above all, transport vehicles were in demand. To that end the Mercedes 170
V flatbed truck was similar to the 1936 pre-war model. This could seat up to
six people on the benches. The four cylinder engine with a capacity of 1.7
liters produced a gentle 38 horse power from 3600 revs. From 1949 there was
also a diesel engine of the same size and strength. Soon after, the 170
Mercedes was also available as a box van, limousine and cabriolet. drive
it! takes a look at a real piece of post-war automobile history.
present it! VW Phaeton - VW's plans to introduce a top of the range luxury
sedan were met with a lot of skepticism. But those times are long gone. Now
the firm has released the latest generation of the Phaeton.Because it sells
so well outside of Germany the new flagship was presented in China. And
there is a good reason for that. VW is hoping to profit from the booming
Chinese market for cars. Drive it presents the new Phaeton with its
numerous technical improvemen
