Today viewers, you are witnessing the birth of a new chapter in small car design, with the introduction of this: the all new 2012 Hyundai Veloster.
While most might say it's just a new body on an old platform, that is where you're wrong. It's been fitted with some of Hyundai's newest technology, and styling cues that would boggle the mind!
It brings a new type of body style to our world as well, now known as a 3 door coupe, which is wierd since most coupes are 2 door's. However, with the Veloster, it incorporates 2 doors into one side of the vehicle, and only 1 on the driver's side.
It's powered by an all new 1.6L GDi (Gas Direct Injection) I-4 with D-CVVT (Dual Continuous Variable Valve Timing) which makes 138 hp and 123 lb/ft of torque. The engine is a bit disapointing since it's pretty much the same as the new Kia Soul. On that same front however, it does now put it in the 40 MPG club, along with the Elantra, Sonata Hybrid, and Accent. So it's really the best of all worlds. You get all the looks of a sports car, with the fuel efficiency of a compact.

Hyundai Veloster review - CarBuyer
Full review: http://www.carbuyer.co.uk/reviews/hyundai/veloster/hatchback/review
The Hyundai Veloster is the firm's latest attempt to produce a coupe without compromise, and first impressions prove they are not far off the mark. One highlight is the clever door arrangement, which is similar to a MINI Clubman. It has a single door on one side and a pair of doors on the other to improve access to the back seats. Unlike the Clubman, Hyundai has engineered the door layout for the UK, so the double doors open on to the pavement, not into the road. At the moment there's a single engine choice - a rather weak 138bhp 1.6-litre petrol - but this may be joined by a diesel and a high powered turbo version in the near future. The Veloster's sharp chassis is easily capable of dealing with more power.

2012 Hyundai Elantra Limited HD Video Review
http://drivencarreviews.com/ In the past, people bought Hyundai's Elantra for it's budget price. The new fifth generation can be bought on looks alone (but you'll like the features too). Tom Voelk checks out this stylish sedan, and hits the highway to find out if it can really get 40 miles per gallon.

That's decent HP from a 1.6L but it's just too weak of an engine for this car. Not fast or peppy by any means. I dislike the rear end which IMO looks half baked, rear seat entry is just terrible aside from the awful legroom, & I found the front seats uncomfortable.
I will admit that the car is an eye catcher, but it really does fall short of all the hype . Best waiting for the turbo version coming soon which would make the car tolerable in some form, just not in this ugly color lol.
Update!! As of 10/13/2012, I had the opportunity to drive a Veloster & I was extremely unimpressed. It had the most obvious economy car ride, the lightest & most lifeless steering, the driver seat was too firm to be comfy after 15 mins, the Dual Clutch Automated Manual Gearbox was on the lazy side, & the entry 1.6L engine certainly doesn't provide enough pep to fit the car's attitude. Its an interesting & eye catching car to look at but thats where it ends. It's not a refined, fun, or spirited car to drive. The question now is, has Hyundai rectified any of the above noted shortcomings with the turbo version?
