RX-8 vs. 500 HP BMW M5 at VIR. Mazda RX-8 wins.
Second session on Saturday, June 14, 2008. Finally let me pass after 1-3/4 laps. Both the BMW driver and I are advanced, high-performance driving instructors.
The RX-8 is completely stock except for a B&B muffler and Hawk HP Plus pads on the front. It does not have traction control or stability control. Tires are original stock street Potenzas. No doubt the M5 is stock too, and this has more to do with weight than horsepower.
Camera is a Creative Labs Vado cheapcorder stuck to the windshield with a suction cup cellphone holder. Video was recorded upside-down due to the mount, and was transcoded to rotate it. Quality suffered.
RX7 New exhaust setup
My '84 RX7 GSL-SE: Racing beat collected header, dynatech 16'' split flow muffler, 2.25'' pipe, 10'' ebay dump tip muffler. Sounds pretty good for how cheap it was, about $250 less than racing beat.

(Before and after) The before isn't stock, its a greddy catback with cat still on. The after is the greddy catback with a racing beat midpipe. I find it to be a great combination!
