Police car is an un-marked Saab 9-3 2.0t and therefore a bit slow.
I do not claim to own the rights to this movie, I just got annoyed that all
versions on youtube are either fast-frowarded or in very bad quality.
Although the driver of the Lotus got away in the pursuit, the police later
went to his home.
Auction of 1965 Ford Lotus Cortina Mk 1 ENJ 712C
Barons auction of Lot 123, Ford/Lotus Cortina Mk1 ENJ 712C, on Tuesday 27
October 2009 which can be glimpsed at the left of the picture.
The guide price was £25K to £30K.
The sale catalogue description : "...Offered here is a 1965 example of the
Lotus Cortina, which has been the subject of a nut and bolt rebuild, which
was started in 1998 and only completed in 2008. The vendor acquired the
car, in a dismantled state, in 1998 and began to restore it to original
specification. It has covered a mere 20 miles since the completion of the
restoration and now sports leaf springs, rather than A Bracket rear
suspension and a replica SE steering wheel.
Finished in the definitive white with green Lotus flashes, the car has been
fitted with many new panels, which included inner and outer wings, front
panel, rear panels, one rear quarter panel, new chassis cross member, front
jacking members and a full strip down of the body shell before dipping,
priming, painting and treating with Waxoyle. This work was carried out by a
professional body shop in 1999 and the car was then stored until 2008.
In 2008 the vendor commenced the final phase of his plan and equipped the
car with a fully rebuilt engine, with a QED, unleaded, cylinder head, new
pistons, reground crank, new water pump, timing chains and all new
bearings. The Webber's were reconditioned by Northampton Motorsport and a
new fuel tank was supplied and fitted as was a new, complete, Borg and Beck
clutch assembly. With a freshly restored radiator, from SERCK services, all
new hoses and a NOS Exhaust system,
the engine was fired up and set up.
Additional works have included new brake pipes, calipers and discs, new
rear wheel cylinders, new ball joints, bushes and shocks, wiring checked
and renewed where required, new headlining, front seat covers, door cards
and carpets, new glass rubbers and new weather seals...".
The Australian telephone bidder dropped out at £29K.
Auction of 1963 Lotus Cortina 8515 UN
This Lotus Cortina was offered on Thursday 22 March 2012, by Dorset Vintage
& Classic Auctions (http://www.dvca.co.uk/) at The Gartell Light Railway,
Common Lane, Yenston, Templecombe, Somerset, BA8 0NB.
Part of the sales brochure reads : "...this rare, early 'Extra Special
Equipment' example was originally raced by Ford Main Dealers Messrs Francis
Garage Ltd of Colwyn Bay, who were the first registered owners of the motor
car. The Lotus Cortina was then purchased by the current custodian's uncle,
who became the car's second owner. His wife found the competition clutch
too heavy, so sold the Lotus Cortina to his brother, who in turn allowed
his son (the current custodian) to learn to drive and ultimately pass his
test in it. 8515 UN was dry stored from 1971 until it was inherited by the
current owner, who moved the motor car into his own workshops.
In 2001, the decision was made to carry out a brief, light renovation of
the Lotus Cortina. However, as is usually the case with these situations,
the light renovation turned into a major restoration which took four years;
even the nuts and bolts were carefully cleaned with a toothbrush for
We are told that the body was completely refurbished and the engine
rebuilt; the gearbox and drive train were stripped and checked, and the
steering was overhauled. The interior front seats were reupholstered (the
rear seat remains in excellent condition), and a new headlining and carpets
were fitted. The instruments and switches were all original and working, so
did not require attention at the time, but at present the rev counter does
not return to zero and the temperature gauge will require a new capillary
tube. We are assured that the radiator has been replaced and a new battery
fitted. At present, the motor car is fitted with Minilite road wheels, but
the original steel wheels will be supplied with the motor car, together
with some spare parts. Regrettably, the front quarter bumpers and brackets
8515 UN has been enjoyed since the restoration was completed in 2005.
Regrettably, it has now become available due to health reasons.
Documentation in the file includes the original RF60 registration book, the
V5C registration certificate, invoices, photographs, correspondence,
various workshop manuals, a Lotus Cars Ltd spare parts list and a quantity
of MOT test certificates (including the current, which expires 28.2.2013),
together with a Shell lubrication wallet, containing the running costs of
the Lotus Cortina from 10.2.1967 until 10.9.1967.
A rare opportunity to purchase an exceptional motor car, which has been in
the current family ownership for forty-six years."
