How to repair a torn CV Boot Fast and for Free! With Budget Mechanic.
On a Budget? Why pay a few $100 when you can repair your torn CV Boot fast and for free? This video will show you how to repair a torn CV Boot using simple everyday items found around the house. This is a fast easy repair that is about as hard as changing a tire and if done correctly should last in the 10,000s of miles range. The technique can be modified to cover any additional damage or simply changed out if it ever fails. Either way if you spend nothing and do nothing it will fail and likely leave you stranded and worse off than paying a few $100 to have it repaired from the start, but if you spend nothing and incorporate this little technique to fix it yourself you have lost nothing but a small amount of time and at least you still have a few $100 to spend on better things than auto repairs.
C.V. Boot Repair, with a quick boot
See how to install a 2 piece quick boot on your automobile. If your cv boot is torn it will allow dirt and water to get in the cv joint and destroy it. You won't save time with a quick boot but you will save money. After the boot is assebled on the axle and the glue set up, install the two piece plug and collar. Slide the plug into the boot and move the boot 3/4 inch, towards the cv joint and tighten it. If you cannot get the new metal clamps tight enough when you are finished installing the boot, try zip ties. That part failed to upload at the end for this video, I used silicon to help seal the ends just for extra care. The boot is a little bit of a hard material, but is holding up and staying in place and together on the car. I would use it again, and the second one would go faster knowing how its done.

As technicians we all have opinions based on our experiences and sometimes the experiences of others, stop leak seems to be one of those things. In my experience it really hasn't done much for me and I haven't seen it perform any miracles but that's not to say that it hasn't at one time or another. I welcome your responses on this topic and look forward to hearing your opinions just be nice.

Nissan CV axle or halfshaft replacement on the passenger side.
I replace a CV axle or halfshaft on the passenger side of a 1999 Nissan Altima.
Replacement of the CV axle went pretty smoothly. First of all getting the nut off of the axle is usually kind of tricky but if you have a cheater pipe for your ratchet or some impacts it's not too bad. I figured out that if you break the nut loose before you take the tire off it works really good. I usually just stand on the end of my cheater pipe until it breaks loose. Then getting the tie rod end off can be tricky too. However I have a special tie rod end puller and a pickle fork that can be used to do that job. I prefer to use the puller though because the pickle fork damages the boot on the tie rod end. Both tools can be purchased at Auto Zone, O'reilly's or Advance Auto for about 15 dollars a peice.
This Nissan CV axle on the passenger side is kind of different because it has what they call a carrier bearing. I guess since it's so long they had to put a bearing in the middle of it too. It's not bad though, it's only held on by 3 little bolts. Since it has the carrier bearing the CV axle doesn't snap into the transmission like most other cars. After the carrier bearing has been removed it slides in and out really easily.
Sometimes when you take the CV axle out some transmission fluid spills on the floor. This was not the case today since I had the car jacked up so high. When I was done I went ahead and checked the transmission fluid anyway.
How to replace a CV boot for REBEL2250
How to replace a CV boot. This is a video showing the replacement of a cv boot on a 2001 Buick Lesabre Axle. I forgot to mention in this vid that there are other kinds of boots you can buy, some are split boots, which are split down the middle and glued together while the axle is still in the car. There are also boots which are made to stretch over the end of the axle so you don't have to remove the axle from the car.
