Part 25: Turbo Manifold Fabrication - My 76 Mazda RX-5 Cosmo Restoration
Episode 25 of my '76 Mazda RX-5 Cosmo restoration is another long one,
covering in its entirety the fabrication of the turbocharger manifold. Suddenly the engine bay
started to look a little cramped when I began to position the GT3076R, so
it took some plumbing to build the required manifold. Constructed out of
1.5" SCH40 304 stainless steel pipe, it was fully TIG welded with an argon
back purge. Yes, this is another long episode because I wanted to show the
manifold fabrication process in glorious detail so that this video would be
a useful resource for anyone wanting to build a custom turbo manifold. So as I say, grab your favourite

are in! 443 rwhp and 490 rwtq. Taking into account the 1.5 degrees of
timing we added, the mufflers cost NO power. Before we made 422 rwhp and

EDIT EDIT EDIT: The car turned a 10.55 @ 129.3 and the block and trans let
go. A Dart 363 and a built Powerglide are going in!

This is my dailey driver, and instead of the popular VR6 swap or the MUST
DO 16v swap, I decided to stick with the 8v and plan on making 300hp turbo later!
But first things first: to get some power now, I BEEFed up the TOP END:
Mk2 8v ABA Head swap w/dual valve springs:
- 4 Angle valve job
- Port and Polish job
- Milled and deck: little higher than 10:1
- Resurfaced and High Temp. Coated all around

SPA turbo: adjustable cam gear: set at
0 degree, currently
ARP Head studs: non-undercut
VICTOR REINZ: MLS metal head gasket and gasket kit
BLACKFORESTINDUSTRIES: STage 2 PEM chip: for 270 cam
TECHTONICS: 2" INCH RACE downpipe: it deletes the cat
TECHTONICS: 2.25 catback: Dynomax

If not, it's probably time...
Unlike their OEM counterparts, Yoshimura Road Exhaust systems need to be repacked every 7,000
- 10,000 miles, while Off-road systems need to be repacked after 10-15
hours of use. Repacking your muffler at the suggested intervals is
essential for your Exhaust to perform
the way it was designed.
Dirty packing restricts airflow from your motor, which results in a loss of
power and degradation of sound. Repacking your muffler allows for freer
airflow from your motor, which restores lost power and improves the Exhaust sound.
At Yoshimura, we use advanced space-age fiberglass packing material for our
mufflers, along with high-strength stainless steel rivets. We also include
new badging to freshen up your muffler's appearance.
HOW TO make your exhaust LOUDEST
*STOP the comments on how bad the welds were. I know they were shit. Take
a look at the rust I was welding on. This was one of my first times
welding. I didn't know you had to get the welding surface to bare metal
back then. Also, I was working with a 110 harbor freight welder.*
