This has a 1.3L Wankel Rotary Engine making 232 HP while paired to a 6 Speed Auto.
These engine tend to be Rev happy. Since it's a Rotary Engine, It's capable of effortlessly reaching Higher RPM's than a regular engine with cylinders. THe HP number may not sound impressive but consider that it's only a 1.3L..

RX-8 vs. 500 HP BMW M5 at VIR. Mazda RX-8 wins.
Second session on Saturday, June 14, 2008. Finally let me pass after 1-3/4 laps. Both the BMW driver and I are advanced, high-performance driving instructors.
The RX-8 is completely stock except for a B&B muffler and Hawk HP Plus pads on the front. It does not have traction control or stability control. Tires are original stock street Potenzas. No doubt the M5 is stock too, and this has more to do with weight than horsepower.
Camera is a Creative Labs Vado cheapcorder stuck to the windshield with a suction cup cellphone holder. Video was recorded upside-down due to the mount, and was transcoded to rotate it. Quality suffered.

Mazda RX8 top speed
April 2006, a few weeks after I got my Mazda RX8... This is the top speed I got on camera (231kph = 143mph), but the actual top speed of the RX8 is around 245kph (152mph) stock... I did reach the 245kph top speed but never with a camera onboard.
